Excalibur Bulldog 400

Post by mchurch » Fri Mar 11, 2016 9:08 pm

Does anyone know if the 100 grain ramcat broadhead will work on an 18 inch arrow or will the blades hit the riser?

That is what I was thinking as well. It does look like the tip of the arrow sits deeper in the riser channel than the other models.

I guess it would depend on where the end of that 18" arrow sits on the bulldog. In a 405 it's no problem, the end of the arrow isn't in the riser cut-out it's beyond that.

Factory spec for BullDog calls for 18" arrow you should be just fine.

Forgot to add that the broadhead pocket is 1 3/8" wide.

With the 18" arrow sitting so deep and the broadhead pocket only being 1-3/8 inches wide it really limits the width of a fixed blade to about 1-1/4".

Running a 20" arrow would be an option, but reading an old post by Boo it seemed that the Matrix series shot the 18" arrow really well.

Looking at those pics I would NEVER run an 18" arrow from that bow. I'd actually go 21" and still keep my broadheads inside the stirrup. Don't worry about the accuracy. You'll gain better accuracy with the longer arrow if anything changes at all. Imo shooting that 18" arrow from that bow is just asking to unload an arrow through your foot at some point.
