Need Help With a Horton Safari Magnum X Bow

Ok I was given an old X Box and I want to string it and shoot some arrows out of it for fun http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n14/Galgo1/HortonSafariMagnum.jpg The blue rope appears to be a cocking or stringing aid. Two strings came with the bow. One String is way too long and the shorter string se...

Re: fletching question

It's funny 8 years ago when I started hunting with an Excalibur crossbow, I killed deer just fine with the stock arrows that came with the bow. Then I changed broadheads to get more weight forward and it killed deer just fine, then I did my own fletching and moved to smaller blazers and it killed em...

Re: Ariziona fletcher tip

Probably...there weer sometimes that after gluing the vanes were not evenly spaced. \i just assumed that \i had placed that that way. That is part of why I do not like doing all three at the same time - just applied a pressure on me to get them all glued before the glue dries...was probably the jig ...

Re: fletching question

Today I spun my arrow on the spinner and found that that all "settled" at a particular point. I am assuming (i know) that they are settling where the maximum amount of arrow material along its length pulls the arrow to the bottom. \i marked that bottom side as the spine and will place my c...

Re: Arizona vs bitzenburger

For me the Arizona was a good starter jig. Easy to use and gave acceptable results. after borrowing and testing a Bitz i ended up buying one because of the precision adjustments you can make to get exactly what you think is best. \i also prefer gluing one vane at a time - it makes me slow down and e...

Re: fletching question

I have been building my own arrows for only three years now and I have never worried about it. But generally one in six arrows that I make does not shoot well. I will try to determine spine when I make my next set and if I have consistency issues I will try different vanes as cock vanes but so far w...

Re: fletching question

Thanks guys this makes more sense now. I guess static spine as Boo referred to it is the stationary amount that and arrow will bend over a certain length when a certain weight is applied. Probably more relevant to Vert bow shooters in relation to draw length (arrow length) and poundage. Too stiff an...

Re: fletching question

Enormous could you explain how determining spine shows you cock vane placement. Never understood that. Isn't spine just a measurement of flex? Thx.

Re: cocking ropes

I recall the instructional video that accompanied my bow showed open end down but then another forum member suggested that I do open end up so that I can actually see the string engage. I've done it open end up ever since.
