Re: Still Hunting = Frustration!

CH,

I presume its a vertical bow and not a crossbow that you are hunting with? Its dang hard to quietly slip through the bush with a crossbow.

Re: Still Hunting = Frustration!

CH312, Your mastery of art surpasses that of most hunters. I doubt there are many here who can give you much more advice regarding still-hunting and tracking, but you may have much to share with us. Its a fact that North American hunters today are far better hunters than our fathers, grandfathers an...

Re: Off Season Projects?

Aside from some antler mounts I'll be doing for friends, I also plan on refinishing a pre-1937 Cooey Repeater .22. Its walnut stocked and boy, can this little rifle shoot! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/josiah1/Cooey%20Repeater/013_zps45db3448.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/josia...

Pulling out the stops

I haven't had to do this in a while, but its crunch time! Time to switch spots to their winter range and sweeten the deal with a sack of corn. Wish me luck!

Re: Where to aim?

Alright, I'll confess, never shot a deer with a bow yet, vertical or horizontal. So, got a little trig for ya. Say my tree is 20 yards from the deer, ground distance. I am 10 yards up in the tree. Am I taking a 20 yard shot or a 22 yard shot. In case you're not up on your trig, this is an a^2 + b^2...

Re: 2nd rut

Great reply! Myself, I've never been much of a field (feeding area) watcher. I did kill a buck 2 years ago in a bean field, but I drew him out of the woods with a call. As for the 2nd rut, I do work the estrus bleat and doe/young buck grunt a bit more. I'll cold call every 30 minutes, except for the...

2nd rut

Its not often talked about, but does anyone change their tactics for the 2nd (minor) rut?

Re: Big John arrows, a bit of a rant.

Once upon a time I showed Big John the custom made arrows I was shooting. He took one look and said, "Those arrows are all wrong for your bow." He was right. John made me arrows that fly faster and flatter than my old arrows, and they kill deer, dead.
