Re: bag targets

Feed bags work very well for target bags. They don't last forever, but you can get them for free from people with a farm so refreshing the target is as simple as placing the target into a new bag. I use old clothing and toss them in the bag and compress the bag much like when stuffing leaves into a ...

Re: Small Game with Matrix 380?

I've taken quite a few squirrels, grouse, and rabbits with my exomax over the years using a few different heads. Zwickey judo points are no good as they tend to pass through most small animals anyways with enough force to bury the head into trees at 30-40 yards. Field points with Zwickey scorpio gra...

Re: Sling or carry to deer stand

All I have to say about this is you can't shoot a deer if the bow or gun is hanging from your shoulder.

I've missed out on a few deer, yotes, rabbits, grouse, etc when the animals showed up in unexpected places and times when I was on my way to where I thought the animals would be.

Re: Tell me if I'm Wrong (long)

It's public land which means neither hunter has anymore right to be there than the other and the first come first serve "rule" doesn't exist and is more of a word of mouth and common courtesy thing. It's very possible that this was his first hunting experience and the guy was clueless. I'm...

Re: Had a bow stolen, keep an eye out please.

Ouch, that really sucks! You still in the same house where I met you that one time? If so, I know a couple people who live out there with family members who run with the wrong crowd who would likely hear about it if someone is trying to sell it. I can't help but think that one of your neighbors who ...

Re: Thoughts on deer eyesight and head movement

You're thinking way too much about this. Just wear whatever orange you like, keep movement to a minimum, control your scent, and play the wind. Far too many hunters have fallen victim to the excellent marketing strategies put fourth by camo clothing companies and now believe you cannot enter the bus...

Re: Want to "Rent" a Smoker?

Very cool, what are you using as a heating element? and is there an air intake vent ? or do you even need one? I'm using the side burner (what you'd use for a frying pan or boiling water) from the side of a BBQ hooked up to a propane tank. An electric element is easier all around, but it costs more...

Eeek! The MSRP on the above website is $1300 US!

If that's the case, the Exomax doesn't have to worry about being traded in...

Enjoy using your smoker for your own deer! :D

You bet I'll be making some jerky in the smoker. I was worried I'd have to settle for beef:D

Re: What an awesome day...x2! Deer FINALLY down

Many thanks everyone. It's likely the smallest deer that I've shot, but I've never had to work so hard for a deer before and there is no way I was passing on what could have been my only opportunity of the season. I measure a trophy by the difficulty in harvesting the animal, not how big it's antler...

Re: My Tread on the 405 has disappeared!

I really hope they'll offer the 405 in a bare bones package rather than forcing people to pay for the extra accessories, which many people don't need or want. It's what prevented me and many others, judging by what I've read online, from buying the matrix.

Please? :D

Re: Want to "Rent" a Smoker?

Old school fridge turned into a smoker = AWESOME, would love to see a pic of the inside. Ask and thou shall receive :D Seeing as you should never have any plastic inside a smoker I had to replace the plastic trim with aluminum around the perimeter of the main unit along with the door too. Red RTV h...

What an awesome day...x2! Deer FINALLY down

Today, my determination finally paid off! We've had a warm spell the last couple of days with plenty of rain and today it was pouring so I wasn't going to bother, but the girlfriend who isn't a hunter asked why I wasn't going hunting. When I told her I never hunt days like this and couldn't give her...

Want to "Rent" a Smoker?

So, most of you have likely noticed my thread about still hunting and the frustration I've been having with these highly pressured public land deer. I'm wondering if anyone within 30-45 minutes of Brantford in WMU 90 with their own land or has access to private land with a good deer population would...
