They are pricey though- I saw them at a local store for $10 a piece and I think they would only be tough enough for one shot.

anybody try the gobbler guillitine (sp?) with a crossbow? Looks like they fly pretty well from compound bows and like they say "want 'em dead, lop off their head with the guillitine". I've seen some impressive videos of gobblers getting shot with them...Used by hunters who want to get a he...

Oh yeah, these prices in Colorado are for one animal (exc. small game), if you get a second tag, you pay the same price again.

Here in Colorado, elk tags are $49, bear is $44, deer is $34, pronghorn is $34, small game is $21, turkey tags are $21 for spring and $16 for fall. these include a $3 application fee except for turkey tags and small game. Moose, sheep-desert and bighorn, and mountain goat tags are too expensive!

I'm also thinking of backpacking my crossbow in for an elk hunt here in Colorado. I will probably leave mine strung, but I may cover it with something just to keep from freaking out hikers who don't realize it's hunting season. My advice would be to try to keep everything as light as possible. With ...

I just wanted to know if there were any other crossbow hunters in Colorado and if there are any 3-D shoots for crossbows close by. I used to shoot 3-D with trad. bow but now that I hurt my shoulder, I miss the 3-D fun. I don't think the archery clubs near me allow crossbows to compete.

Yeah, I think that AMO standards for vert. bows are 9 gr. per # of draw weight and IBO standards are measured @ 5 gr. per #, so the high speeds they always advertise are IBO and I think that's for a 70# bow (70# x 5 = 350 grains) so if the crossbow standard is 350 gr. the IBO standards would be the ...

Bolt weight for speed specs?

What is the industry standard bolt weight when manufacturers give fps with their crossbows? It seems like it must be about 350 gr. I compared the listed speed of Excaliburs bows against the speed they listed for different arrows from their website. It looked like 350 would be about right for getting...

Thanks xboman. I'm not really into deer hunting as most books on deer are about the whitetail. I live and hunt in mule deer country- quite different animal and hunting style. Thanks though for the xbow book info. Does anyone else have crossbow book info?

Buckbuster, are you asking about accuracy on the grim reaper or the 2 blade heads? My Zwickys seem as accurate as my field points. If I shoot well, they do too. In other words, they are more accurate than I am shooting off hand, which is a 5" circle at 30 yds. I'm sure using a bench rest and sc...

Have any of you guys used fixed 2 blade heads? I started using Zwickys for traditional (recurve and longbow) bowhunting and love em so I continued to use them for the crossbow. I've never had any flight issues, their cheap (about $3 each), and the're virtually indestructible. The one big critter I'v...

Have you read a good book on crossbows?

I want to try to find a book about crossbows. I have read a few reviews on (I believe it's called) The Book of Crossbows. It sounds interesting and seems to have a good mix of history and how-to. I think it was written about the beginning of the 1900s. Can anyone here give a review or have you read ...
