Thanks for the tips. I guess string life is just one of the tradeoffs with the exomax. It's still an extremely fine crossbow, in my opinion. However, it might be interesting if Excalibur introduced a "Deluxe" version of the Max with a teflon coated rail. (While they're at it, they might in...

Exomax String Life

I haven't posted for several months. Great to be back onthe forum! :D BillT, the new website is a huge improvement. Anyway, a few days ago I decided to take a few shots with the Exomax, for the first time in a while. One thing lead to another, and I ended up taking quite a few shots. Still as accura...

Straightening bent dissipator Bars

It's been quite a while since I posted. I dry fired my Exomax several months ago, and only recently noticed that both dissipator bars are slightly bent. I tried clamping them in a vice and pounding them with a leather mallet, but had no success straightening them. Is there any special trick f...

I think the main reason a 50-55 yard shot with a crossbow is a bad idea is that most people simply can't reliably estimate range at that distance within 5 yards. Since crossbows have such a high trajectory, misjudging by five yards could change the point of impact by close to a foot, especially at l...

TYE, probably tiny air bubbles in the paint are causing it to flake off in spots. Maybe something else though. . .

You need to have your wits about you when toting a crossbow. You can't be asleep at the switch like you can toting a vert bow. I learned that the hard way. Luckily, the damage to my limbs after the dry fire was insignificant.  The people bashing crossbows because of this accident seem ...

Good idea GaryL. Should I glue the splinters before I send the limbs to excalibur, or let them do the repair?

Just measured the splinters. As far as I can tell from visual inspection with a magnifying glass, both splinters are no more than a sixteenth of an inch wide, and the longest one is a little over an inch long. I havn't tried to raise them. Are you guys sure I couldn't just get a little epoxy on the ...

Dry Fired It! Help BillT!

 Darn it, I was afraid this would happen! I was just sighing in my new red dot, and forgot to load a bolt. on the fourth shot. The bow is an Exomax. There was nothing spectacular. The shot sounded a little different than normal, but not really loader, and there was more vibration than normal. T...

Ultradot Red Dot Arrived

:D My red dot sight arrived yesterday! It is a 30 mm red dot, 11 position adjustable, matte black finish, made in japan, $129. From what I can see, the workmanship is flawless. It included a lifetime warranty. Also included a nifty two-piece adjustable polarizing filter, which I would say is worth a...
