Where is Matthias72?
I've been away from the Excal Forum for awhile. I've always enjoyed the posts from Matthias72 of Rome. His Italian website is great. I've learned a lot from his work. But I can't find any of his Excal Forum posts since Sep 2008. Anybody know what's up with that?

All you deutsch sprechers!
You might enjoy a visit to the arrowinapple.de website. Its German.....they do a lot of crossbow. You can click on ENGLISH for language.Take a look at the multiple reticle, 110 meter xbow scope that they advertise. It's pretty kuehl!

Shorter bolts
I've experimented with bolt length with my Phoenix. I'm down to a 16.5" aluminum 2018 bolt with 2" Blazer vanes and wraps and overall weight of 367gr/13.8% FOC/100 gr points. Using a 100 gr SlickTrick, I hit a 3" balloon at 75 yards. Not bad for a "short" bolt. Over the wint...

I've whittled my bolts down to 16 1/4", 2018's for my Phoenix. 367 gr, 15% FOC, 100 gr. points. 2 " Blazer fletch. So far I'm 2" accurate out to 75 yards for target shooting. 100 gr SlickTricks for hunting.

Too Easy
You guys that like the super up-close shots should consider switching to something a little more challenging by either just "butt-stroking" the deer or better yet, try an Atlatl. You can see an Atlatl in action in the great new movie "Apocalypto". They are legal for hunting in so...

Fletching
A guy at my local Gander Mountain store suggested some fletching cement called Fastset to me. I use an old Bitzenburger fletching rig that is also one-at-a-time. This Fastset cement has worked well for me to speed up the fletching process. It's fast and clean.

Accuracy with 2" Blazer Vanes
I shoot an Excal Phoenix. I make my own bolts. I've been trying to develop a bolt that is short and accurate. Currently I am working with a 2018 aluminum shaft set at 16.25 inches total length including a 100 gr Slick Trick point, Bohning wrap and 2" Bohning Blazer vanes. I add weight to the fr...

Phoenix string
I use a Phoenix and Fast Flight String with the front edge of the string serving aligned with the first line closest to the front of the crossbow. Best speed is from that position.

Length
I shoot a Phoenix. I use a hip quiver. I like short bolts. I have experimented with various aluminum shafts. I am now settled on 16" 2018 xx78 shafts, 100 gr points, Bohing blazer 2" vanes, 10.1% FOC. Total weight is 356 gr bolts that Chronograph at 305 fps. I zero my scope at 50 yards and...

Serving
I've got the same book! It's an oldie but a goodie ...... just like me! Your Kevlar braided line idea sounds good. I shoot a Phoenix right now, but if my ship comes in and I'm healthy enough, I'll be getting a Max where the serving REALLY gets a workout! So I'll be trying the Kevlar sometime.....

Re-Serving
I used Elmers Carpenters Glue. It's a yellow color. It seems to set the new serving in place. After drying, I rub the beeswax in with hand friction to heat it. By the way, I first finish the ends of the reserving by feeding the ends through a few loops and then pulling tight, kinda like the old meth...

Re-serving
I shoot an Excal Phoenix using 355 gr. 2018 16.5" bolts @303 fps with FFF string. Original serving didn't last long. I used 45# "Musky Master Braided Micron Line" black fishing line to re-serve. I treated the secured ends of the serving with super glue and also soaked the entire re-se...

Phoenix
I've been trying various combinations with adapting my old compound arrows to my new Phoenix. I'm still experimenting, but this combo seems pretty good: 2016 Easten shafts cut to 18", with aluminum inserts, Bohning Blazer vanes (2"), and 100 gr. field points with a 5 gr. washer. I grind do...
