Get the latest issue of deer & deer hunting Charles Alshiemer has a theory on the moon and the rut. His predictions for this years rut are in the article. I'm not certain if I agree with his theory or not, but it is interesting reading.

I hear ya. Friday evening I arrowed a yearling doe at about 10 yds from tree stand. Blood trail only went 25 yds. I was pretty certain I heard her crash, but 2 hours of seachcing the dark came up empty. Went back the next morning within in less than 30 min. Unfortunately the coyotes had found her be...

Bad Deer Hunting Weather

Man this is some of the worst hunting weather I've seen for the early part of the season. At least that's case in SE Ont. Last week it was like hunting in the tropics with daytime highs in the high 20' and lows in the high teens. This week its monsoon season. For the weekend it looks like I'll have ...

OK. I agree with everybody on taking long shots and as an example here is what can happen. I normally limit my shots to 30 yds or less. A few years back I had a buck eating apples at about 33 yds. He was quartering away and I decided to take the shot. The result was, I hit him in the rear hip. The g...

Thanks guys. In the package I recieved this year for additional deer tags there was a notice indicating the WMU's that they would be doing CWD testing in this year. The zones I hunt in were included (69a,67). They said more details would be forthcoming on their website. Just wanted to know if anybod...

Hey. No replies from anybody on this one. I know MNR has done CWD testing in other parts of Ont in previous years. Have none of the Ontario board members ever had any of thier deer tested. This disease has the potential to destroy the sport we love. I'm really concerned.

CWD Testing in Ontario

Looks like MNR is going to do some CWD testing this season in SE Ont. Anybody from other parts of the province had any experience with this. What's involved and what part of the animal do we have to bring in? How soon after that kill? Can it be frozen? Where do you have to take the parts for testing...

Started hunting with an xbow in '92 with a Horton. Killed a doe that year. Bow was stolen ina break in. I replaced it with an Exocet in '93. Didn't kill another deer with an xbow until '96. Since then I've killed somewhere between 20 and 25 deer. Best has been an 130's class 8 point that weighed aro...

Buckshot, 4/5/6 are the only legal shot sizes for turkeys in Ontario. Personally I prerfer 6's (more shot denser pattern). There really is no recommendation though. You really need to pattern the gun with different shot sizes at different ranges. Get a pattern sheet with a life size turkey head and ...

Schnarfuss, The hunting show you mentioned on Global is not Wild Tv, although the it is a step in the right direction. It is a single hunting show that will commence on Global on July 3. I believe it will air early in the morning 7 or 7:30, so set your VCR. The name of the show or the Web Site escap...

DesertRat,
Not sure if you were just joking or not, but I believe Canada should be banning the import of any wild/domesetic deer, moose, elk from the U.S either dead or alive. Maybe this has already happened.
