Re: What weight Broadhead for better penetration?

Thanks also to AJO1, NChunter and all who responded. I'll get back to you all with my findings on a heavier set-up.

Re: What weight Broadhead for better penetration?

Thanks, Norm. I will forego the washers and just try the 125 Killzone Trophy Point; that may increase my penetration without having to sacrifice much speed, since I'm already pretty sure that my old Exomax shoots under 350 fps. But I'm sold on the NAP Killzone entry wound, it is killer. Now if I can...

Re: What weight Broadhead for better penetration?

I found a site that sells brass washers to add weight to the front of the bolt. So what size do I order to fit the Excalibur Firebolt and the NAP Killzone (regular bow) broadhead? Is 11/32" the right size?

Re: What weight Broadhead for better penetration?

My history with Wasp fixed broadheads is disasterous. Well-placed shots, complete pass-thru. Bloodtrail became specks and then stopped. never found deer. NEVER going back to fixed blade broadheads. Not that I don't believe the success of those who have done well with them; I do. But I haven't lost a...

What weight Broadhead for better penetration?

I'm an old Excalibur Exomax user. Haven't posted in a while. Have had great success with NAP Killzone 100 grain expanding broadheads (NOT the Crossbow Killzone, but the regular bow Killzone). Killed my last three deer with the NAP 100 Killzone, but did not have pass-through on last two deer. So I wo...

Tye: You might not be thinking about marriage yet, but she is always thinking about marriage--so she can have that wedding she's always dreamed of! One day a girl asked if she could go hunting with me and now we have two kids and she complains that she doesn't get to go hunting when I go, because sh...

Yikes! That could have folded up and bounced off of the front sight right back into your face!

But I guess you don't have a front sight. Even so, pretty splintery situation.

I have read this whole thread with great interest and surprise. I guess my Dad is really an unusual guy, because I have been hunting in his stands for 32 years now. In fact, I have never killed a deer from a manufactured storebought stand. I have sat in a few and found them generally difficult to ge...

awshucks: Yes, deer are scarce around Mena. They always were, even when I was a kid. One reason is the terrain and folks who let their dogs run the deer crazy all year round in that rough mountainous area. But you do have some turkeys around. If you are not a turkey hunter yet, you need to become on...

Congrats, engineman!
I hope to do the same to a doe this week with my new Exomax. Only one doe tag left to fill, but only a little season left to fill it.

Actually, Crossbows aren't near as noisy as what I'm used to shooting...Rifles!

I have seen deer crouch quickly at the sound of a noise, so try to not aim too high; but I doubt that a deer is going to lurch out of the shot in the vitals before an Exomag bolt gets there with shots under 35 yards.

black martin: I am not going to retell the story--because I don't want to experience it again--but if you don't want to lose your deer, even your mortally wounded "definitely gonna die deer", you need to wait longer than a few minutes for the deer to bleed out, stiffen up and die where he ...

awshucks: I spent every April of my youth not far from where you live. My Dad and I used to camp out at Shady Lake State Park and hunt turkeys in the National forest. We killed some awesome Gobblers in that National Forest! You live either down HW 8 past Board Camp or down HW 88 past Cherry Hill, do...

I would not even consider trying to uncock my Exomax without using the rope cocking aid.

And you've got it right there in your pocket, why not use it?

Unless you brutes are actually drawing your Crossbows without one :o !
