Interesting, Buckshot's graphic representation of the FOC formula would most certainly be valid for a given length of shaft, and it's relationship to the balance point of that shaft. Although, hunting heads come in different lengths, a 100gr head of any configuration, should not move the balance poi...

To answer your question in a nutshell; probably not. However, if your the type of person who continually asks: "What if I did this to that?" Then the answer would be different. Curiousity, or the inability to leave well enough alone. If your arrows are doing what you want them to do, as yo...

Yes, you can substitute values into the equation if you're looking for an unknown, as an example: Let's say you have a 12% FOC and a 20" arrow and you want to know what the balance point should be, well: Let "x" be the balance point: 12= [(x/20)-.5]x100 .12=x/20-.5 .62=x/20 12.4=x As ...

bstout I've been playing with some 18" 2216 xx78 super slams, 4"feathers for a total weight of around 386 grs. that includes 100gr heads. Foc is a shade under 12% with 100gr. heads. That includes carbon flat nocks and just regular 2216 alum. inserts. With 4" vanes(everything else the ...

Ditto on the 4 degree, that's what I use Tye. Never had a problem with either vanes or feathers.

FOC formula: am I wrong?

Hello: I have been reading about FOC calculations that some are getting with 18" arrows and my calculations aren't even close. So, here's the formula I'm using, tell me if it's right or wrong: Arrow balance point(measured from the nock end), divided by the total arrow length. Subtract .50 from ...

Knots anyone?

Hello I thought I'd share this site because of some of the recent questions about knots. Because of my job, I have been trained over the years in high angle rope work(too old now, young bucks do it all, while I sit in the truckLOL). Anyway, this is pretty good reference, hope it helps: http://www.an...

I have measured Laser II's, 2216's and 2219's. They measure around .343 give or take a couple of thousandths. For all intents and purposes the OD is basically the same. That could just be my calipers. I have used the laser II nocks with 2216's (xx78 Super Slam alloy) with no problem. Haven't tried t...

I like the Green River knives, have three or four. Decent steel, easy to sharpen, holds an edge pretty good, and inexpensive. Have boners and Skinners. By the way, Big Al, what knive do you carry when your not "wearing pants"? Just kidding, it sounds like you have an impressive collection....

This is something that is relatively easy to do yourself. Believe me, if I can learn how, anyone can. I'm the type of guy who can't hit a nail straight, so that should tell you something. All you need is a serving bobbin(about $10 or less) and a spool of serving thread(I believe crossbow serving is ...

Hey deerman:

You live anywhere around Sanilac? I spent three months there in 1973 surveying some right of way for the Sanilac Petroglygh Park(?). It wasn't a park back then, just a proposal. Did they ever turn it into a park. Used to have to go to Bad Axe (Nasty hatchet!) for Polka and beer.

Ach, one of those Pa Dutch Country whitetails! Can you say venison scrapple! Goes good with soft pretzels and an Ortlieb's.

Congratulations!

Raw shaft, the inserts and flat nocks were all very close to the weights you quote. Hope this helps Rich.

PS: I posted not too long ago about my experiences messing around with these. If you do a search you should be able to find it anon.
