triple crown

I havn't been on in a long time. Seeing lots of does and fawns so far this season, but no bucks. Had a good year last season, got three; doe with rifle, buck with crossbow and bigger buck with muzzleloader. Take care and good hunting.

Hey Congrats, Tending grunts or regular buck grunts? How many times did you grunt to bring him in? Partikle It took me about 20 minutes to get his attention, wind was blowing and 50 turkeys were between us. During a real quite few seconds he finally heard me and started to run my way. I think I gru...

Grunt calls are great

I've not been on for sometime, but thought I might share my latest hunt. Bought a muzzle loader this fall and grunted an 8 pointer from about 400 yds away to within 50 yards for a nice clean 1 shot kill. Could'nt believe how he came to that grunt call (all open field). Got a huge 8 pointer during ri...

I get my back to a tree , rock or even a hill and then build a blind out of brush to my shoulder height at a sitting position. Works great on a good path leading to feed. The last 3 years and a buck each year makes this work for me.

I just started bow hunting in 2002 and have taken 2 bucks from ground blinds. A good backdrop (tree, rock, hill etc..) with a little brush piled around seems to do the trick. You have to be on a fairly well used path taking notice of wind direction and keeping your body movement to a minimum.

I've had great success from ground blinds. Since I only shoot up to 25 yards, I find that's about as far as I need to see in any direction. I like to be hidden on one side, preferably where the deer come from, put some brush in front of me(a pile 1 or 2 ft high), and the most important thing I've fo...

I'm not sure about moose, but my Vixen is accurate and a pleasure to use for deer. I also find the fiber optic sight is all I need.

dairyfarmer, Is there any advantages to canning over freezing? I've never tried it, but am always open to new (or in this case probably old - method  ) ideas. How do you prepare it, and how do you use it? This summer found my wife & I dehydrating more than canning the veggies from the gard...

canned venison

Of all the different ways to prepare venison, my favorite by far is warming up some right out of the sealer. The spike horn I got with my vixen in late Oct. is delicious. I can the neck and most of the front shoulders of the deer I harvest. The mature buck I harvested last fall was good, but doesn't...

I have 2 Stihl 036 saws. The best saws I've ever owned. They're in use every day all winter and have been trouble free. You don't need a big heavy powerful saw if they are kept sharp and clean.
