Regarding the nocks - I'd highly recommend the lighted ones. Especially for hunting. Unless you see the deer go down, being able to find the arrow and see 1) whether it's bloody or not and 2) the color/consistency of the blood, is invaluable. Well worth the $40 or so I spent for 3 Tracer Arrow nocks...

I can't answer #1, but...

I'd set it towards the backline the first time. It will stretch and creep forward on the rail as you shoot it.

Hi Butch - have you already purchased the tracers yourself and had trouble installing them? I've done it and there's really not much to it. The only difficulties were getting the old nock out and sometimes having the o-ring get pinched while putting the new one in. If you've tried and are having pro...

LOL, that is almost as bad as the guy that posted a picture of himself with his buck at night and his crossbow laying next to him. You better hope the MNR doesn't read your post. Hey - wait-a-minute - I had a picture taken of myself with my deer and my crossbow at night this year. It was long after...

It never occured to me that the string would go that far ahead, but I guess I can see that happening. I'd love to get Bill T's opinion on this "string stopper" idea. I can't imagine it would be damaging to the limbs, because they're basically at rest by the time the string would hit it, bu...

Come to think of it, Mako, I did have one O ring that got pinched and was hanging out the top when I was trying to get the Tracer nock in. I pulled the whole thing back out and then slid the ring a little further down and then I was able to get it in with no problem. I'm not sure if I defeated the p...

Wow! Really nice buck Corvus! Were you hunting around Freeport?? There's some good deer around the seacoast. I use to hunt in Maine around the Waterville area when I lived in S. Portland. Is there still a deer problem on Peaks Island?? I remember all the hub-bub about the state hiring a fella to ba...

I've used Lumenoks on my vertical bow arrows, and I'm not wild about the methodology they used to make them turn on and (especially) off. I bought some Tracers to try on my crossbow, and I'm much more impressed with those. I've never had one NOT light when it was fired past the magnet, but I've had ...

Having spent the last 20+ years doing my still hunting from a treestand, I find having a padded seat inside a wind-blocking blind to be QUITE delightful even without a heater. Forgetting any safety concerns, I wouldn't want to risk any sound or smell spooking a deer. I like to set up for a really cl...

I think it was the only deer I've ever shot that didn't die with the tongue hanging out, too. He had kind of nasty expression on his face. It's probably a good thing that I didn't let him get any bigger and meaner.

Oh duh! Sorry about that. The only body shots were taken from a non-digital photo and I haven't gotten the pics back yet. Anyway - it was only 156 lbs. It sure felt heavier to me when were dragging it out! I was hoping for 180s-190s, but it was a young deer with a nice rack. Lots of those in Maine t...
