When caribous come by the hundreds...even thousands during their migration, you probably could spear them they get so close. The fact is, it doesn't happen as much as people believe. I have been twice for Quebec caribou. A 45-70 is alright... if you get to see them close. If it's all you have, I hope they will pass close to you. Average shots are 200 yards. Both times I have been I have not seen any large migrations only 10 - 20 at a time. Closest one shot 75 yards...furthest 40...

My dad's has 20 inch barrels and patterns very well. Pattens are better with the 2 1/2 inch shells over the 3 inch. It's a real sweet little number for chasing snowshoe hare in the winter.
