CF, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your grandmother. I lost my mother this year from Colon Cancer and understand this difficult time for your family.

Do you Grunt before shooting a walking deer?

When shooting my Exomax at a walking deer I adjust my shot to compensate for the movement of the deer. I am considering starting to Grunt to get the deer to stop, then shoot. I am interested in learning what your approach is when a deer comes walking by.

I hunt alone and have a 15 minute drive from my home. A few times a season, I will join some friends on hunts a couple of hours from home for several days. I always enjoy these times. I think a combination allows you to appreciate the differences.

I have had better success in the mornings. I generally set up 30 minutes before legal hunting time to make sure everything is settled down. I hunt ridges in the mornings. That seems to work the best for me. The main thing is to find an approach that works for you!

The terrain is difficult to manage when I walk and climb up the ridges where I hunt, so I prefer an uncocked bow going in and out. I do the same as most everyone. I cock mine on the ground by the base of the tree, put the safety on tie hoist rope. climb tree pull it up. Only when I am up the tree an...

Exceptional Buck! Those G2's are impressive. The collective knowledge of this forum lets us learn from each other rather than personal trail and error. I know you focused on this Buck and it's great to have this early season success. Congratulations.

I appreciate everyone's comments. It's hard to be objective on the size of your own deer. I have learned most of what I know in regards to archery hunting from the regular members or the Excalibur Forum. Thanks

12pt + 5 Atypical pts Buck

I got lucky this past Sunday morning. The past 3 years, it was not until the first week in December before I saw any “Big Boys” and it was only the 2nd day of Archery Season. http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc234/jschneiderexomax/12pt5atypicalptsBuck.jpg What at great day! After a week of solid r...

To me, a climbing stand is the only way to go. I feel more secure in one than a ladder stand, but that's a personal preference. I first started with a Baker Tree Stand 25 years ago. I have had 3 different Summit Tree stands and currently use the SS Viper. I tried a Lone Wolf and they are great stand...
