Re: Which Broadhead with aluminum inserts?
With my Phoenix and 2219 shafts I have had good luck with the Zwickey 125 Eskimo with bleeders atop a 42 grain full length aluminum insert. Glued on with hot melt they average 170 grains and fly just fine with aluminum inserts and either 4" feathers or vanes with some helical. That combo weighs...

Re: feather fletching
I have had good luck with a batch of 2219s that I cut down from vertical bow use, and I think your 2216s would do equally well. They needed refletching anyway, so I stripped off the old feathers, cut off the Eastman swaged nock taper and cut them to 20". I use a 2219 point insert on both ends, ...

Is anyone using Zwickey Eskimo BH w/Bleeders?
I just made a good deal on 2 dozen zwickey Eskimo BH with the bleeders for my trad bows. I'm wondering if anyone has been using them with the long aluminum inserts (168 grains) on crossbow arrows? I'd be shooting them out of my Phoenix on 2219s with 3x4" helical fletched feathers or vanes. Sout...

The following afternoon, just three minutes after I got into my dog house blind I thought I had a second, but smaller doe, but a couple yards this side of her, a nearly invisible branch flipped the arrow right over her back. Lots of folks say this is strickly an archer problem, but I have had the sa...

Buying a spare set of limbs
I'm in the process of getting needful stuff for the long term, and am wondering where and at what price I might buy a spare set of limbs for my Phoenix. I've been satisfied with the factory flemish strings I've bought, but may order a couple of Boo's excellent one, too. Any suggestions will be appre...

Phoenix takes first deer!
I got out a little late today since it had been raining all night and until about noon thirty. Yesterday afternoon I'd set up my doghouse blind in a spot about 25 yards from a small group of white oaks that are just starting to drop here in central GA. I had 15 foot tall planted pine bedding areas o...

GA Hunter kills 573 lb. bear with crossbow
A week ago last Saturday, a GA hunter killed a 573 lb. black bear in Wilmer Co., up in N. GA. Lots of pics were posted, but I can't figure out how to link them. The bow was a Horton and it dropped the bear with one well-placed shot from a tree stand. It was an impressive looking bear, but the coat w...

Sumner: Have a safe trip to VA. I lived up in the Sprinfield area when the wife and I were stationed in the Pentagon. If the timing works out it would be nice to chat in person at the Sept. meeting. Groundpounder: I guess I had never read your location in your avatar. I'm in Jonesboro, and I'm alway...

Thanks a lot for the info and the advice about the last meeting. I will plan on attending that one and see if I have any luck. If not, I will know what to do next year. BTW, where to you buy your broadheads, and what is this year's model that you like? GF

Sumner: Yes, I'm still hunting in GA, mostly on the southside. No, I didn't get to hunt that property last year, but I'm hoping for a couple new spots this year. I understand that you're not in favor of string trackers, but did have succes at Ft. Campbel, KY in similar terrain with a vertical bow so...

String Tracker Settup
I'm going to be hunting from the ground in GA beginning Sept 12, and all the leaves will still be present. Terrain I'll be hunting will be dense with 25 yards the longest shot. I want to use a string tracker, but am wondering how best to attach it to my Phoenix. I'll be using a high FOC arrow in the...

Suburban Whitetail Rig
Thanks for all the input folks. Naturally, I'm not going to break any laws--I live in the subdivision in question. It covers a lot of area, there are 524 homes and the lots range from .5 to 1.25 acres with a lot of trees left by the developer. There are lots of white oaks, and five major streams, an...

Trying to put a suburban whitetail rig together
I have the opportunity to hunt a couple suburban areas that are overrun with deer. I had joked with a friend a couple years ago that once the people driving the Lexuses and Mercedeses started hitting deer they would want action, and now's the time. I've got a Phoenix with Vari Zone and factory flemi...
