I just started making my own bolts in the spring, I use a Arizona EZ 4 degree offset with the 2" Blazers. They are very accurate.

I jsut picked up a Morrell Yellow Jacket at BP for $50.00. It's a big target and it stops the bolts from my Exocet 200 no problem. The only drawback is that my Muzzy 100's are a little hard to pull out. Other styles with a more swept back profile were no problem. As for longevity, time will tell. T...

Preparing for upcoming season

As I watch these fellows feed in the field behind the house, pulse quickens, blood pressure rises and I picture getting a shot on one of these boys this fall. Hope that this picture posts okay. The deer are at 400 yards. I've been waiting to get a better chance for a photo to share, but when they ar...

When I hunted Pennsylvania & West Virginia I thought that scent helped, especially Tinks 69. I also used Dominant Buck scent. I'd try to watch the wind direction also. Now that I have hunted a score of years in Ohio, I use scent more as a cover and not a lure. When I have used scent as a lure, i...

Deer have changed their feeding patterns and are coming closer to the house during daylight hours than in past years. Even with the dogs outside the deer are keeping the fruit trees well pruned. In our farm area, part of Ohio, the bucks seem to be out numbering the does 3 to 1. Also have seen fawns ...

I also shortened the rope as Cossack, to cock my Exocet 200, as I have short arms.

I've enjoyed ML hunting since the early 1970s. Pennsylvania blackpowder season was challenging with the 58 cal patch & ball flintlock. My load back then was 70-75 grains of FF or FFF by volume and was adequate on PA whitetails within 100 yards. In the 1990s shot a 50 cal T/C Black Diamond with 2...

Good looking tape job, Bigtiny!

I have been experimenting with Blazer vanes. Shows a slight improvement.

When I bought my Exocet 200 I was concerned about the noise. I tried the Limb Saver solid rubber string silencers (shaped like a "Z") but could not keep them attached to the string. I ask about quieting the crossbow and was told by some members of this forum not to be concerned with the no...

I do not own a Bushnell rangefinder but know a few who do and they are satisfied with the quality. I have looked through them during daylight hours and the look good. I own a Leica, the optics are great even in low light situations and bad weather. Since I only use the rangefinder where I hunt (arou...

Fun & Games

Last evening there were 4 bucks in the soybean field behind the house, about 200 yards distance. Three of the bucks were 120 class or better. I tried my grunt call on them. The bucks did not acknowledge that they heard the call. I got out the rattle bag. Oh, Boy did that get their attention! All fou...

Go with the range finder. I've had a Lecia for 5 years and it has paid off during big game hunts, bow & gun, and also for taking varmints & smaller game out past 500 yards. The range finder has also helped me judge distances when without it. My son and I have made a game out of quessing dist...

Welcome to the forum, Ranger. I have reloaded the '06 for my son & I for years with a 150 gr bullet @ around 3000 fps (near maximum load). As I've gotten older, I don't enjoy the recoil punishment as I did when I was younger. Older-wiser? The 30-06 can be reduced loaded for less recoil. Good Luc...
