I know a guy who supposedly put some out in the middle of his yard about 20 yards from his front porch one evening. The next morning he woke up to a giant buck licking at the hole he had dug in the ground, and it was well after sun up too. He then shot the buck from his front door. I don't kn...

I don't know much about range finders. I've never owned or used one, but I have been eyeing the ones by leupold, and bushnell with the inclonometer inside that judges distances with the angle of slopes added in. They are in the Cabelas catalog. I am not sure if they are worth it or if it is just ano...

Good choice Grizz, I always heard that if a mom was shot that another mature doe would adopt the fawn/s. That made it acceptible for me to shoot one, but I could still never do it. I will never shoot a fawn either. That is just cruel to me. Only mature deer that have had a chance to live and learn a...

I hunt from both, but the majority of my hunts happen on the ground. Like others, I am more comfortable and it is easier to move if I am on the ground. Plus it takes a long time and there is more of a chance of making loud noise when setting up a stand, and that is not good because I can't usualy ge...

Sounds like a scrape to me too. I have seen scrapes this early and earlier before in VA. I may be wrong, but I always assumed they were community scrapes. Meaning that they are scrapes usualy found near feeding or bedding areas that many deer visit from time to time to leave their mark and see who e...

You may want to cut the tips off of all the points because they can stab you if you are realy getting into banging and grinding them together. It depends on their length and shape though. Try them out first and then decide. They can also be difficult to carry. I like to lay one on top of the other a...

Ecoaster, I like your system. I assume you buy one tag and if you fill it you go get another. That way you only lose 35.00 if you don't get one. I love just being outside, and shooting something is not a priority, so the monetary loss would be minimal if I didn't. I don't have a need for 6 deer plus...

Good advice nighttrain, I always tell myself that but I am like a kid in a candy store when it comes to hunting and all of the cool gadgets that are coming out next. I want it all but can't afford it, wich may be a blessing in diguise because most of it isn't worth the money anyway. Crazyfarmer, I h...

License fees up in VA. How about you?
I just finished buying my licences on line and was upset to see that prices have jumped from $12.50 to $18.00 this year. I always said that their isn't a better place that my money could go but thats alot of money. No wonder hunting is decreasing in popularity. It is the most expensive sport out the...
