My dad and I have always made jerky in the oven with ground venison. It works great. The ground meat takes less time to marinate and dry compared to the strips and it is easier to eat also. Do as C.F. said. Back them away from the scope untill they will close and stay closed. Then I like to wrap a piece of electrical tape around the edge of the cover and the scope to help it stay in place. It should work for you if it is the right size.
