A Little Help Please

Hi everyone; I need your advise and expertise. I'm considering purchasing an Excalibur crossbow for hunting larger black bear. I"m not one of those people that has to have the latest fastest of everything as I hunted for over forty years with a .30-06 and and used a .375 H&H in the blow dow...

Re: "Operation" Ghille Suit Is Now Complete!

Nice work. I appreciate anyone interested in a Ghille. I'm an Army Vietnam Era Veteran and have always leaned toward the "one shot one kill" side of things. The Ghille just fits into becoming part of the terrain so I applaud your efforts. I especially think the Ghille goes with the crossbo...

Re: matrix 380 on order

Cograts on the new Xbow!

I'm thinking of joining the Matrix 380 club. What broadhead and bolt combo would be best for big black bears up to 500 lbs. or so?

I have been a fan of the Magnus Snuffer on my 36" arrows. Yes, I have very long arms. Tell me about how the fly out of a 225lb pull crossbow.

I"m totally new to this whole crossbow thing as before I was an old Longbowman so I don't know what works with these rigs. I'm dating myself but I learned archery back in the 1950s -1960s. I will be hunting spot and stalk on the ground as baiting is illegal where I am except on private proverty...

Any suggestions for the best Broad head for Big Back Bear???

Any suggestions for the best Broadhead for Big Back Bear that may weigh over 500 pounds??? That is a lot of heavy corded musle, fat and hide and I want a pass through if I can get it using an Equinox.

12 Gauge Slugs

My money goes to Dixie Slugs for power and effectiveness because they are the only hard cast heat treated slugs, refuse to flatten out and they flat out penetrate.

I am considering getting into crossbow hunting because I had to give up my Longbow due to a central nerve disease. Otherwise I hunted even muledeer with an old custom .375 H&H. With a I have never used any thing but cut-on-contact heads so it is good to hear positives about them for moose. What ...

Sounds like home to me!

Grizzly Adam, that sure sounds a lot like where I grew up. I had many a run in with those big cottonmouths plus some big wild boar and razorbacks. Those young sub-adult bears are the ones that are usually the ones that are the most trouble. By the way, have you ever read any of Gary Sheldon’s books ...

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Yes a lot of people don't relly respect black bear as much as they should. I had a friend that was in my wedding party that was killed and eaten by a black bear in Colorado. If he had been a hunter he most likely would still be here. The bear riped the door open to his trailer ...

Thanks

Thanks for all the great replies. Grizzly Adam you made a point I greatly agree with on cut on contact broadheads. I have a neurological disease that is slowly permanently damaging my nerve systems all over my body. I grew up hunting with a longbow and a recurve with which I always used cut on conta...

Any Black Bear Hunters Here?

What have you found to be the best set-up for complete penetration of black bear and which broadheads have found that work best since they have heavier bone structure in thier ribs than deer. Does one leave a better blood trail than another? Any other advise? Anyone know what bolt set-ups are used f...
