Re: Custom Arrows

I've had a real hard time finding arrows. I bought my first crossbow last year and have taken 4 deer with it, and have only found one arrow. I hunt from the ground in bush, and in the snow, so when I picked my colour combo, I had to take that in effect. The first thing I considered is dark colours (...

Re: feeding deer

Supposedly the Powassan coop has real good alfafa bails for $7 each...I bought some at L'Ami's last year and they were horrible...There is also a Menonite farmer selling his own and I think he is on Cutter lane or something like that.

Photo Contest

I haven't read anywhere where the winners have been announced this year, or if the voting has even started. Nonetheless, last year I was lucky enough to snag 2nd or 3rd place and received a groundpounder mount for my efforts. Unfortunately, I don't use a mount for my quiver and thought I would give ...

Re: Well how well did you do?

Good year for me, shot a bull moose with a buddy (we were both shooting), got a doe with the excal in nov, shot a nice 9 pointer and a fawn with the rifle at camp, and then took a nice doe with the excal in dec...

Re: When's your best part of the deer season?

I live in northern Ontario, and although I have had success with a few october hunts, 2nd week of november is typically when the most rut activity happens. That being said, for the past 2 years I have patiently waited for the snow to fly before doing any serious bow hunting. Once we get a few feet o...

Re: Am/Should I be mad???

Sorry, this reply might have already been stated, but I am not going through 4 pages of posts. Firstly, GP, when you built this mount, and offered to the members, you did a great thing. I am an average consumer, an avid hunter, and work in a professional setting. What guys like you, Boo, STS, crazy ...

You hit the nail on the head...I don't think it requires a mercy kill cause she is "ugly" to look at. She is obviously healthy otherwise, or she would not be standing there having her picture taken. Not all animals are created beautiful and free of disease or disabilities. I know you can't...

Hard to tell if that could beat it...I can't see it being scored as a typical...but what the hell do I know...and it does not look even close to as big as the Hanson Buck.

Hunters are about the only predators that rely on sight to find their prey...and even at that...I've hunted moose in swamps, black spruce, tag alders...etc etc...and if there is a moose there, they are pretty hard to miss despite their black hair.

How they heck does their colour make them susceptible to predation...A moose is a moose. Unless they are genetically stupid, they are no less susceptible than a black moose.

I actually shot a big buck last year at over 40 yards. The buck went about 30 yards and expired.

Last week, I shot a doe at 52 yards. Hit a lung and the liver, she went about 20 yards max.

I also took a doe last year with the boltcutter and she went about 60 yards, but it was not the best shot....

Up in the Loring/North Bay/Corbeil area, the numbers are as high as ever. Was just talking to a buddy about that. We did a weeklong hunt 8 years ago in a tent, hunted hard, and the three of us saw one deer. Now, it's just crazy. I counted the amount of times I hunted last year....11 - shot 7 deer, a...

I have a bag target from whitetail something or other...it works good at 20 yards, but when I get to 30 and 40 yards, it goes right up to the fletchings... I've shot 3 deer now with my equinox, and only found one arrow...complete pass throughs and I think the arrow still picks up speed...I'm going o...

The whole blind thing has me baffled. You are legally allowed to sit in a blind during rifle season, as long as you still have your vest and hat on. But the blind does not have to have orange on it...the whole point of hunter orange is for hunter safety... I'm not discounting the use of a blind, but...
