I never wear a watch. It was in legal shooting time. No night vision... I'm still stuck in a month ago when last shooting light was 5:30 pm. By the way, for the bean counters, www.weathernetwork.com indicates 4:45pm in this latitude as sunset so last shooting light is 5:15 here, not 5:10. Cor...

FINALLY! Late season score (pic)
I have had the worst season to date this year. Almost opportunities, deer coming around the wrong way, deer coming but then something else spooking them, you name it. I think I've put in about 40 sessions on different stands with zippo results. And this after a season last year where I harvested a n...

For some reason, winter camo has been a huge problem as manufacturers don't want to commit and produce great snow camo garments. The best I have ever seen, and I own one set, are the coveralls Cabela's produced for a few years in a pattern called snow shadow. I have worn it in -25 degree weather wit...

CLOSE buck encounter
Today I tried to slip into a cedar swamp I got permission to this summer. Never had a chance to scout it until yesterday. In 30 minutes I counted at least a 15 scrapes, with most being 3 to 4 feet across. Had to go in today. I ended up making a fair bit of noise... my climbing stand kept getting hoo...

Thanks for all the replies. Please update if things change for you... It would seem most people are not seeing the usual daytime activity that heralds seeking and chasing, but a few are. Today I went out at about 1:00pm and nothing was moving at all! Then about 6:00, I heard deer moving but couldn't...

Ontario hunters - Where is that rut?
Charlie Alsheimer of Deer & Deer Hunting declared the rut for the NE would start as of October 26th (grain of salt taken). I do respect his expertise but I haven't seen any cruising bucks (8 hrs in the stand today alone) and definitely no chasing. The deer here near Kitchener still seem to be in...

Before climbing into my stand, I lay a Tinks 69 drag in an arc 30 yards wide in front of my stand where I want to shoot. If a buck gets close to your stand, he'll intercept it and likely follow it slowly, nose down giving me a chance to kill him as I did with a nice buck last year. Makes the differe...

Thanks RJ, Glad you liked it. There really aren't any predator hunting videos shot on snow and predators running across the snow looks so darn awesome, we just couldn't resist. It's pulled A1 reviews from pretty near everywhere. Now, if we could just shoot a DVD using Excals to put em down......

Grab a pair of snowshoes, a rifle and start walking fencelines, but only those that have some sparse brush and trees along them. Also, small patches of trees and brush and woodlot edges. I prefer the fencelines. The rabbit will get up anywhere from 100 yards to 5 yards ahead of you and run down the ...
