I use scent free soap and deodarent and wash my clothes in scent free detergent. Honestly, can't say it means much most of the time, but I consider it extra insurance. Example: was in a hurry last Saturday morning getting to my hunting spot in time and left the house in my camo. Got gas and McD's th...

Shortest to date - and that includes deer I've shot with my 7mm Rem Mag! It was really intense, having him so close and not able to shoot. Had a little standoff for a while until he finally turned on me. I can't believe how fast he came in to that bleat call - first time using it and it defi...

Actually, my point of impact would have been farther forward if he hadn't have turned - hard to explain without a video but he was uphill from me and when he took a step to the left it made the angle steeper and pulled the shot farther back. I'm not sure whether he smelled me or was just turning aro...

Slick Trick Performance Confirmed

Well, I got a chance to hunt with the slick trick's this past weekend and managed to score my first archery deer. The slick trick performed flawlessly at 11 yards and literally dropped this buck where I shot him with a liver, one-lung, and center spine shot. As you can see from the pics, I did not g...

A couple of months ago, i was thinking about doing some bolts, looked at everything that i would need, but never managed to find blank bolts(without vanes) so i gave up on the idea, anyone ever found a place that sells bolts without vanes and inserts, just curious. I'll probably end up trying becau...

Welcome! I'm fairly new here myself but have really learned a lot from the great people on this site. Good luck with the xbow - I'm new to it as well and I'm really enjoying it!

CatsClaw - This past weekend I missed my first deer with my first attempt with the crossbow. I learned a lot from that miss - a clean miss thank goodness - and hope that I carry that knowledge with me this Friday as I make a second attempt. As others have stated, it's hunting, not shooting - and you...

Tried several methods with the epoxy - hot water and brush only, no prep at all, and acetone - none worked on this last batch of arrows. Like I said, never had the problem before until now with the epoxy. The Goat Tuff worked first time out and I stuck a ST in a tree the other day and managed to get...

Tried 2 part long cure epoxy - lost inserts after a half dozen shots. Never had the problem before and have built up a lot of shafts over the years. Not sure if this is a gold tip carbon issue or not - but couldn't get it to set good. I now have a bullet proof method that will hold those inserts - t...

I'll second the Tracer nocks - been practicing with them for the last couple of weeks and am really impressed with them. They allowed me to clearly see that I made a "clean miss" on a doe in last hunting light this past weekend.

Blaser vanes fly great on my shafts I built up for my Phoenix last week - truly impressed with BH's and there ability to stabilize the bolt in flight.

I'll second the goat tuff - stuff is amazing for fletching and inserts on carbon arrows. Won't use anything else...

Rage BH review & Slick Trick field test - 1st Xbow Deer

All - Saturday was my first hunting day this year and missed my first deer with the crossbow. It was right at last light and had a doe walk in at 25 yards that I guesstimated at 35 yards and shot high over her back with a Rage Broadhead - clean miss over her back easily observable with the tracer no...

Since I started using tracer nocks I have not lost a single bolt in practice or in the woods. Missed a doe yesterday at 35 yards as the sun was going down and shot over her back into a briar thicket. Not only did I find my arrow in less than 2 minutes with the red nock glowing - but also CLEARLY saw...

Just read the regulations closer - doesn't appear to be a minimum length on BH's for crossbow bolts - just regular archery equipment. What's the difference??? Just goes to show how ignorant hunting regulations can be...
