The thought process BJ is to be prepared for anything. Fortunately I live in a hollow with only one road in. I guess you could call it a box canyon. This could be easily defended if it came to that. Were all cattle ranchers and farmers so I think we could if we had to, substain ourselves for quite s...

O/T Disaster/Survival preperation

Anyone else out there prepared to lay low in the case of some natural or man made disaster? I have been working to store six months worth of supplies. The first thing I have is the bug out shelter (cabin waay back in the woods). I've been at this for the past year trying to put everything together t...

Hey Grizz, Im wondering where Gum Neck is. I like NC for the fishing. Not only is the off shore and beach fishing great but the lake impoundments are fantastic to. I've been fishing the little alligator river for bass and I own Lake Gaston. I was runner up Mr. Va. Bass a few years ago. The Smokies a...

Just had a discussion around the coffee table with my co-workers. The general consensus was that we didn't pay our polititians enough to attrack the really good people. They have a point in that a football coach not to mention the players make a ton more money then our representatives. The Pres I th...

I would think you could hack it with that amount of retirement income. Health insurance is one of the hardest things to pay out for but with your 30 years in the Navy don't you get health care for life? I don't know where Glouchester, Va. is but I guess it's somewhere near the ocean. I hope you have...

That's interesting about how the minorities are going to overrun us sometime soon. I thought that was only happening in the states but you Canucks are faceing the same thing. I don't know what that will mean for all of us. Will we end up being taxed to death? Will our governments, police departments...

Hey Shurite44, I too can see it coming someday that the people will rebel against the government. Once the Liberals take control and gut our second ammendment to the constitution to keep and bare arms, the first ammendment on free speach will be eliminated next. We'll start getting arrested for spea...

I always used cheap optics in the past for binocs and scopes. I'd cuss when they fogged up and bitch at the soft picture, difficulty in focusing and the small field of view. It wasn't intill I had the chance to look through quality optics that I got to see the amazing difference. It really is kind o...

That's the way I want to go. I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my granddad and not go out screaming like the other people in his car did.

Im from Virginia and have been complaining for some time about the Yotes. They are completely wiping out the deer herd in many areas. I couldn't fiqure out where they came from. Then yesterday someone told me that West Virginia brought them in. Yotes were indeginous to the state way back when but we...

I've been chided for posting non-hunting stories and now feel quilty for posting this. There is no punch line. The poor guy will now spend the rest of his life with disfiquring scars, a bad limp, and now he's out 10 grand. His hope for gaining hunting privaledges as a reward for attempting to save t...

Dog attack story

My buddy goes by this farm everyday on his way to work. It's a big place with great hunting potential that he would just die to get hunting rights to but it's is gated to the main house with no tresspassing for any purpose signs posted. One day on the way to work he notices that the McMansion is on ...

It all comes down to hunting style, objective, and the terrain. I hunt for the bigger bucks, 8/10 points or better. Just sitting on a game trail won't accomplish much. Sure you'll see deer but it doesn't gaurentee you'll see a big one. I still hunt until I jump a nice one and then try to fiqure out ...

A 12 ga pumpkin ball should do the trick as my number two and three round. My weapon of choice in a bad bear situation would be the 12 ga.auto. Im not all that accurate with a big bore handgun.
