I've always wanted to do a guided deer hunt but I look at the pictures in the guide brochures and all I see is little, dinky, pencil thin 8 & 10 point racks. If that's the best they can offer then forget it. I pass up ones that look like the ones they show. Va/Md has an abundance of monster buck...

Virginia White/Black Bear

New Spring Bear. These photos were taken several weeks ago and not in 2004 as the pictures say.

Has anyone found an effective way to keep deer out of a food plot short of an eight foot fence until your ready to turn it over to them? Soy Beans grow very well on my prop but never get more then 5" tall same for the clover/chicory blends. The only thing that gains any height is the winter whe...

The Monster mix worked great. I would have thought it was doing poorly if I hadn't fenced in a small circle that the deer couldn't get to. It grew to 12" to 18" when it couldn't be fed on. The rest of the field was kept at 3" to 4". Amazing how cropped the deer keep it. Wish I co...

Farmer or crazy farmer can probably answer that question better then I. Im kind of a novice at it but learning. Soil prep is probably the first concern. What is your PH, well drained or not, what type of fertilizer to use, what zone, will you be able to disc or at least rough up the soil, etc.. All ...

I never did find out what happened to him. I guess I'll never know. I did run into a fellow runner the other day who said he was out that afternoon running in the woods and saw some guy wondering around. He didn't think much of it and just kept going. Could have been the same one.????

Many of you are too darn nice which is one of the reasons I like to chat with you all. Some of you want to extend this neighbor the benifit of the doubt. He knows exactly what he is doing and he needs to know that it is not acceptable. Leave him a note in a zip lock sandwhich bag stating that you ar...

The laws in my state allow you to go onto private property to retrieve game as long as you don't carry a weapon with you. If your trailing a wounded deer with your firearm then you need to get the property owners permission.

I've been having the same problem with my farm. Three of my neighbors have built a total of six tree stands over looking my fields, bedding area, and travel lanes. They have no respect for my property rights at all. I even caught several them cutting white oak on my land for fire wood. They all seem...

O/T Tracks in the snow

I thought I'd use all the new snow falls to follow deer tracks to see where all the deer were bedding at and to try and find natural funnels. I followed tracks in a two mile circle around my farm and to my surprise all the deer left the fields in the morning and headed right for my deer feeder and m...

I've got both types. The classic Huron wood ones and the new aluminum plastic ones (Red something or other stealth hunters). I like my Hurons the best as they are very supportive and the most silent. The Hurons are coming undone though and I replaced them with the new type. Sorry I did that though. ...

I use to shoot five deer a year but stopped as I had to eat deer meat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to consume it all by the beginning of the next season. Three deer is just about right for the family but getting three deer now is a real problem as the state now allows one to harvest as many as t...

That's nice. You can drink beer and not even have to get out of the tub to pee. It would be just like the public swimming pool.
