Fast flight Flemish string

My Vixen came with the standard Excal string. I know a Fast Flight Flemish string would increase arrow speed, but is it by a noticeable amount? Is it worth the trouble? Are there any disadvantages to it?

BStout, I agree with that. I've always been far more impressed by the guys who can pull off the close encounters. If you think about all the deer you've taken, those are the memorable ones. They get your heart pumping just a little faster. This survey has given me pause for thought though. My precon...

Maybe I'm wrong on this but, to me, a super close shot tells me the shooter is an excellent hunter. He or she penetrated the defenses of the animal. That takes skill.

Wrong forum for atlatls....illegal here as far as I know.

Wabi,

I like your rationale ....BStout also makes a good point about trajectory problems in thick brush too . This is why I ask these questions....Great stuff to consider. Thanks all.

Wabi, thanks. I understand the implications of the numbers as I've shot a compound for thirty years or so. It's you observations about their performance out of our crossbows that I'm wondering about. Are the frailties of the shafts worth the benefits of the performance they provide?

2216s or 2213s?

Hey everyone, There has been good discussion about 2219s and various carbon bolts. Unfortunately, where I'm at, 2216s are the easiest ones to get. (They are Beman Thunderbolts are all the local sports store carries.) They shoot well out of my bow, but I've bent or destroyed three. Anyone care to sha...

This is good. Not much different than I thought it would be, but then again it's still early in the survey. It'd be great if we had hundreds of answers to come up with a solid average. We all might be surprised. I know we've all talked about furthest ranges we'd shoot, but I think getting a good rep...

Shot distance survey

Let's run a quick survey. Anyone who has shot deer this year, how far away were they when you shot?

I think I'll start practicing that way. Missed a chance at the best buck of the season because it came in on my wrong side and caught me as I shifted ever so slowly. I'll keep it under twenty yards.

My brother is a carpenter and he made one for his crossbow very similar to what you describe but without hinges, just clasps. It's heavy as all get out but it does protect the bow and scope and it never moves from the back of his truck during hunting season. We call it the piano. It sort of looks li...

Will the wind allow you to still hunt toward the bedding area? Not in it just closer to it.
