Sounds a lot like my in-laws.
But probably not as cute, right?

I bet the bears make deer hunting where you live a whole new experience! There's a terrific article in this month's issue of Sports Afield that suggests a list of hunting goals that hunters should try to achieve in a lifetime. One of the suggestions that really sticks in my mind is to hunt somethin...

Definitely NOT playing 'possum!

I was driving to the woods early this morning and as I crested a hill I passed an opossum eating something in the middle of the road. Later, as I was driving home, I passed the same spot in the daylight. As it turns out, the opossum I saw earlier had been snacking on - you guessed it - another dead ...

That doesn't sound very altruistic to me.

I was wondering about the bling on that gunstock. Was there a label under the arrow that said, "This End Up"?

As long as we're on the topic, take a gander at the Horton reCon 175: http://www.crossbow.com/recon175 Is it just me or does this thing look like some sort of ultra-complex suicide contraption? When I saw one hanging on the wall at Bass Pro my first thought was, "Great. Just what I need. Anothe...

That's a good question, Mike. I have read a couple of things that suggest whitetail does and fawns may come together in loose social groups, but I think "loose" is the operative word. What I mean is that I don't think they form complex hierarchies or social bonds in those groups. Like zebr...

Sorry, Mike. I should've read your entire post before making wise cracks about leaf blowers. Your neighbor sounds like a nice guy but you'd think he'd be a bit more considerate about the noise he makes since he's letting you hunt behind his house. The woods that I hunt saw the Battle of Carthage in ...

Hmmm. It seems a tad bit unethical to me to hunt deer with a leaf blower. If I were you, Mike, I'd call my local conservation officer and tell him/her what your neighbors are up to.

Adrian - You are in the same position right now that I was in a year ago. I had never owned a crossbow before. Heck, I had never even owned a rifle! But at the end of several months of diligent research and talking to people I concluded that Excalibur was the only way to go. After a lot of back and ...

I'm no expert on deer biology, but according to the URL I'm attaching below, whitetail fawns begin foraging several days after birth and are weaned by 6 weeks. Some female fawns will mate during their first year and most male fawns leave their mothers by the end of that first year. http://www.nhptv....

Yeah, but box fans cook up so much better than window sills. Window sills are just plain tough. And you know how conventional wisdom says that ANYTHING tastes great fried? Not window sills. Fry it and it STILL tastes like crap.

For me it's either Joe Satriani or Sonny Landreth. Both of them are guitar virtuosos, and after tagging out on a window sill yesterday I need all the inspiration to improve my shooting that I can get. Savagevervet P.S. If you're a fan of good rockin' Blues but you've never heard of Sonny Landreth th...
