Here's one way to do it : Sight xbow in at 20 yards using cross hairs. Next, set target at 50 yards. Using 20 yard crosshair aim and shoot at 50 yard target (NOTE: this will mean aiming at a point high enough above target center that will allow bolt to take its trajectory and still hit main target. ...

Hmmmmm, this doesn't sound right. All mildot scopes...and in this case crossbow scope with varying range bars...operate on adjusting the fied of view, or distance between dots, via a magnification knob. Increasing magnfication will decrease field of view and vice versa. Adjusting such a scope then i...

Are you sure it's the string? When the bolt accelerates down the rail at trigger pull, the friction of the aluminum nock, or aluminum arrow, creates a burning smell from scraping along the rail. I notice the same smell coming from my aluminum arrows when I shoot them from my PSE Carera compound bow....

Thanks much for the answers! Wasn't aware that the limbs are the same for each model.

So if I were to put a couple shims in the limb pockets, increasing the distance of limb to trigger, I could probably eek out some more velocity from the bow?

Differences in Limbs

Being new to crossbows I'm curious about a number of things about my Excalibur. I will just mention one for now. I notice a difference in my bow's limbs. The one limb fits very snug into its limb pocket (if you can call it a limb pocket), whereas the other limb is a little narrower in dimension than...

I love hunting creek bottoms, or stream banks near food sources. Good funnel areas. I notice what looks to be a stream/creek on the east side of the corn field? Do you know if deer are bedding across that creek and cross it to get to the cornfield? There is a place I hunt here in PA that has a simil...

True about the recoil, but a spring-piston air rifle, of which I have many, does the same thing, yet are notorious for destroying rifle scopes. The piston's bounce-back after it's initial forward thrust is what messes up the scope. A crossbow's string does more than thrust forward. It also bounces b...

I just joined, and did so...

...because PA just opened their regular archery season to crossbow hunting. I've always wanted to try a crossbow, but never took the plunge. I always filled both my tags before second season archery came in, when crossbows are allowed for a couple weeks. I figured since I always filled my tags it wo...

How to Increase FOC on Carbon Bolt

I am shooting an Excalibur bolt with 150 grain head. Total weight of bolt + head = 418 grains. I want to shoot a mechanical broadhead (probably a Rage), which only weighs 100 grains. This will change the FOC. Anyone have problems with decreasing the headweight by 50 grains? What can I do to add 50 g...

The back of the blades need to be inserted behind the rubber o-ring. The protruding notch in the blade fits in and held snug by the o-ring.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the welcomes and suggestions! I think I'll try the leg option (the monopod that braces on the thigh). Much apprciated to the one offering a trade, but I'd like to keep my open stand for bow hunting...and it's lighter. This site looks great! Hope to talk more with all of you! Steve

New Here

Just purchased an Excalibur Vortex and learning to shoot. Pennsylvania just legalized use of crossbows during archery season, so I'm going to give it a go. I will be using my Summit climber treestand that I've been using in regular archery season, and am wondering if there is some kind of bipod/mono...
