Re: NJ Bear
That is a huge bear. Looks like the state record for NJ was broken on December 8, 2011, with a 776 pound bear... only to be broken again on December 9, 2011, with this 829 pound bear. http://www.outdoorlife.com/blogs/newshound/2011/12/two-record-black-bears-taken-new-jersey Looks like the world reco...

Re: Hunting in the snow
Maple - nice buck! Instant snow-camo, eh? Makes sense. A couple years ago my trail camera took a picture of a buck with 2 or 3 inches of snow piled up on its back. It either bedded down flat on its stomach and didn't shake the snow when it got up, or it had been moving around pretty slowly for a lon...

Hunting in the snow
This is a short video I took with my cell phone on December 10, 2011. I was in a stand overlooking a clearing. I saw no deer. My old man was tucked away in the woods. He saw four deer. It seems that the deer prefer to stay beneath trees and out of the snow if they have a choice. http://www.youtube.c...

Re: Has This Ever Happened To You
I shot the one on the right, and the one on the left fell down and rolled over before getting up and running. Bet you thought you got them both in one shot for a second. I was more worried that my shot was off by ten feet!! I didn't explain my previous post. I think deer sometimes lose their footin...

Re: Has This Ever Happened To You
This year I had two does 20 yards in front of me, ten feet apart from each other. I shot the one on the right, and the one on the left fell down and rolled over before getting up and running.

Re: Got a Question - More Big Bucks This Year?
The only buck I've seen all year was a small one my dad got on our first day hunting. Haven't even seen a buck on the trail cams this year. Lots of scrapes though, so I know they're around!

Don't worry - you're still in better shape than me!maple wrote:Man, the 40s and 50s are the BEST years. Young enough to do just about anything, and old enough not to care what others think of it.
If this question had been asked 10 years ago, I could'a said I was 51.

Looks like they officially recognized that cougars are present in Ontario in 2010. The population is estimated at 550 in all of Ontario.
