Talked to Excalibur this morning and the limbs are machine ground to size them before the tips are installed. The finish is put on the tips and limbs at the same time. It's not unusual for the finish to come off the trimmed area (like mine). Has no effect on limbs or performance and doesn't mean tip...

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't know enough about the way the limb and limb tips were joined to know if that was what I was seeing or not. I think they are 1.5 or a little larger than 39 mm. I just went into the store and asked to bring my Crossbow in and get somebody to help me fit them. That works best.
