Re: Rutting

Good Point Dart and the doe doesn't get very big over the year either as she's pregnant. I had such a doe and her small fawn wandering around under my stand all fall. I don't think the doe weighed 100 lbs and the fawn was really small.

Re: Hunter Survey (Ontario) - Don't forget

Thanks for the reminder, Ninepointer. This year I actually kept a little journal of each outing and recorded the number of turkeys and deer. I was surprised at how many of each I'd seen over the 3 month period. I used to try to remember but the memory isn't what it used to be.

Re: Ontario deer season's over - now what!

On to steelheading since the rivers are still open. I'd like to go ice fishing but not for a while yet, if ever!

Re: Two hunts left

Thanks folks. Thinking next year I'm going to just go with one tag and once filled move on to steelheading. Having that outstanding tag plays huge games with one's competitive head. It's weird eh! It's only $30 bucks or so and yet I passed on alot of other activities I like just as much in order to ...

Re: Two hunts left

Had tied the bow and dropped it. Just ready to undo the harness and 3 deer walk out. Geez up comes the bow and i slide an arrow in as quietly as possible. I'm looking at 2 yearlings and a large doe. Didn't have a good shot at the doeand decided the herd needed her more than i. Took a shot at the lar...

Re: It's Quiet In Them Their Woods!

Well I found them thanks to the snow. There's only about 4 deer in a herd that usually has 10+ deer. Poor winter and overharvest likely. They're bedding in a well drained conifer stand. It's only about 5 acres so they're pretty hard to approach. They move predawn to the corn and they don't come back...

Good Luck John. Someone on the Board suggested they stay close to water.

Re: It's Quiet In Them Their Woods!

That's a good one J Krug. Well if I see one I'm going to take my usual amount of time "shopping". With the lack of snow they seem to be everywhere and nowhere.

It's Quiet In Them Their Woods!

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to where the deer have moved to. eg. swamps, higher ground, conifers etc. I'm not seeing any activity and yet they were there 3 weeks ago. I'm in an area that usually has winter yarding but with this weird winter...........I'm lost as to where they've ...

Re: food plots

Unfortunately they use a Shelterwood Cut system in Ontario and I don't think it opens the canopy enough. There is alot of popular and maple that show up. Maybe the lack of deer is as result of overhunting and heavy winters. Dan O. Dan, I have headed north for a few years now and hunting cuts and ha...

Re: Good Day today

That is a BIG doe! Lots of snow in South River eh! Don't blame you for wanting to track right away. The snow would make it alot easier anyway. Congratulations!
