Re: Vortex plus GTII Arrow Speed

You don't need to know the exact arrow speed, or need a chronagraph. Sight in at a Measured 20 yds. ( don't guess or pace it ) Move back to a measured 40 yds, still using your 20 yd crosshairs shoot a group, which will be hitting low on your target, then with the 20yd crosshairs on your original tar...

Re: POLL - are fawns fair game?

In 30 years of hunting I have never shot a fawn, but having said that, if it were the last day of the season and the meat pole was empty I might shoot a twin which would leave the doe only 1 to care for through the winter and avoid the wolves. I have shot a yearling late season in the past, I go for...

Re: Spitfire or X-act broadheads?

This sounds good to me, I am planning to try my first mechanicals this year, and I chose X-acts because they are endorsed and tested by Excalibur.
You know, dance with the one who brung ya.

Re: 1st Excalibur Crossbow

Thanks for the welcomes and advice. I tried out the axiom and a vortex today to see the fit, both fit comfortably. I also have tracked down a special on an Exocet 200 so if it is comfortable for me to use then I will probably go for that bad boy. Cheers Welcome. I also found a deal on an Exocet, th...

Re: Sausage Making

I have stuffed sausages using a meat grinder, I think I removed the plate but left the cutting knife in place to help speed it up, but it is still painful slow. Princess Auto in Winnepeg used to have a sausage press for about $20 , but I can't find it now, the only one they show is this one for $120...

Re: 1st Excalibur Crossbow

How I chose between a thumb hole and traditional stock was to pick a point on the wall, close my eyes and raise the bow, then I opened my eyes to see how close to that point the sight was. After doing that about 20 times I chose the Exocet over the Vortex because it came up to that point more natura...

Re: Seasoning a cast iron frypan

I have always found that butter or lard work best for seasoning, better than vegetable oils. same with cooking, butter or lard work best. And if you have to wash it heat it right away to dry it, add butter or lard simmer a few minutes, let it cool and wipe it out. This has worked for me for 40 years.

Re: ANTI - CROSSBOW TALK

Wow, this is an eye opener, I did not know such a controversey existed. I am 55 and crossbows have been legal in Ontario as long as I can remember, since I started hunting at about 15 years old. To the best of my knowledge, a hunter is a hunter here, rifles, shotgun, black powder or archery ( crossb...

Re: Forum Update

You should try Dial-up internet, every web site is s-l-o-w . Where I live dial-up is all that is available, no hi-speed, no cell service, no hubs or rocket sticks will work. I click on a site and go make a coffee and wait. On the other hand I have fish in my front yard, and deer, moose and bears in ...

Re: first time bow hunting moose

I am no expert, I have hunted moose a number of times over the years. My Tips are more like mistakes not to make. 1 Shot placement is the most important. It is no fun tracking a moose for 2 miles, and then packing it out. There are only 2 places to shoot a moose and drop it in it's tracks, the heart...

Re: Ontario Antlerless Deer Tags Online?

In the hunting regulation book, it states there are 2 ways to enter the antlerless deer draw, by phone or paper. I see nothing about entering for doe tags online. I know you can renew your outdoors card and small game license online. Applying by phone is fast and easy, and with the post office on st...

Re: lumenock

I would proceed with caution regarding acetone. I would be concerned the acetone might start to soften the resins in the carbon fiber. But I have no experience here, never tried it. It would be a shame to turn it into a noodle. I believe I have seen a thread in lumenok, but that would extend the len...

Fixed Blade vs Mechanical

I have seen a lot of disscusion on the fixed blade or mechanical broadhead. It seems a lot of you like the mechanical for it's cut diameter, ...for deer. Reading between the lines here, am I to assume that Fixed Blade are the way to go for moose or bears? Any of the mechanicals I have seen do not lo...

Re: Canada customs strikes again!

I don't do much cross border stuff, but I think with any Govrnment agency as soon as you mention " trigger unit " the red flags are going up.
Have you tried labeling it as " Used Parts for Repair, Made in Canada."
Just to see what happens.
