Re: Looking at getting brass insert for fire bolt

The Gold tip inserts fit well...But, I have found a 75 gr insert in a Firebolt works well. This is what I shoot. Firebolt, 75 gr insert, 100gr X-Act broadhead = 418gr total weight Normal Firebolt, 150 gr Boltcutter BH = 416 gr total wt. GT Laser, 100 gr insert, 100gr X-Act BH = 410 total wt. All 3 c...

Re: Experience and P.A.D.'s

Should add a column " never had one, but likely will at some point." Because I caught myself with an empty rail just in time before firing one day, I was rushing because I was loseing daylight. Kind of gives you a sick feeling. I have a very strict routine now when practicing, look at the ...

Re: Hunting in Canada

Mostly we call for moose from a ground blind on a point. A friend of mine just got back from Whitehorse, Yukon. Nice bull moose 64 inches across the rack. In north Ontario a lot of people use guides, I have met Alex Gouthro a couple of times, very knowlgeable. Too bad he no longer guides but he can ...

What Broadheads will do.

Being new to crossbows, I had to find out for myself what a broadhead will do at 40 yards. Firebolt with 150 gr Boltcutter, 6 - 4 liter water jugs (full ) and 2 inches into a foam block. 1 water jug, a piece of 5/8 plywood, and 2 more water jugs. Blades still intact. GT II , brass insert , 100gr X-A...

Re: Speed Ring Question

Am I correct that you are shooting 2 Exocet 200's? and 1 has the speed ring maxed out.
Time permiting you could swap the 2 scopes, that would isolate if the issue is with the scope, the mounting, or the bow.

Which ever one presents a shot first.
If they both showed at the same time, I'd shoot the 2nd one, looks like heavier 1/4s.

Re: Help me understand arrow penetration

Thanks for the input, thought that must be the difference. I am planning to try the Firebolts with 150gr Boltcutters, and the GT Laser II with 100gr X-Act this weekend, I'll see what happens. I am starting to feel a sence of urgency as deer season opens October 1 . You think you have lots of time, t...

Help me understand arrow penetration

I am new to crossbows. Exocet 200. I was out yesterday practising on two pieces of blue flotation foam, duct taped together, about 16 inches thick, the type they use for dock flotation. ( don't use this stuff it sticks to the arrow shaft.) I was shooting Firebolts with 150gr field tips = 418 grains ...

Check any ponds or streams nearby, she may go to water to cool the wound.

Good luck.

Re: I don't get it?

Which is more ethical? Flinging an arrow at the side of a deer at 40 yds, or a pinpoint location of the vitals with a scope and Excalibur? ( or rifle)
95% of the deer I have shot are 1 shot kills, and (touch wood ) I have never lost a deer.

I'm also new, have not Robin Hooded an arrow, But I put 3 arrows into the same hole in the shot block from 30 yds, so if I had left one.....

Re: Shooting tips

Yikes 1 1/2"!! I am using the rope cocking aid so that is out of the question. I'm a newbie when it comes to crossbows - could you explain what a run out is? I think I need to controll my breathing and squeeeeeeeze the trigger as opposed to slapping it. I have been a shotgun hunter for the las...

Yes The Guy broke the law.
He broke about the first 10 rules of safe gun handling.
Probably will be charged, might even go to jail.

But, I can't even imagine HOW BAD HE FEELS right now.

Re: Best way to quiet an Excalibur?

I think that deer can and will hear everything that is unatural in the bush. They can hear a saftey coming off unless it is absolutely silent. or the click of a trigger. If deer are jumpy or on edge they will get spooked by any noise. I had a deer jump one time because my rifle strap made a slight l...
