Re: What bolt setup is everyone using?
I'm going bison hunting in Dec and am (currently) settled on Easton Full Metal Jacket Bolts, brass inserts, flat plastic nocks (come with the arrow), and 100 grain heads. That arrow weighs in at 535 grains and has an FOC around 17% when measured from the end of the arrow, not the end of the tip. My ...

Re: Acquiring Hunting Knowledge
One thing I didn't see in this thread was addressing a deer's ability to see UV light. I started using UV killer a very long time ago and that makes a huge difference. Many dyes used in clothes - even camo clothing - reflect UV light which a deer can see but you cannot. UV Killer is a product that w...

Excal Hard Case
My wife bought me the Plano Manta hard case for my Vortex for my birthday. It's pretty big, but I think it will do a nice job on my next trip out west. A bit of a pain to put together, but nice design. And it really is very adjustable. Will fit about anything I think.

Re: Crossbow Hunters in North Carolina
I have not heard of one but I also have only been down here for about 1 1/2 years. I'd be interested though.

Dalton's Crossbow Wax
Just called Dalton's to order some wax and he asked if I wanted the regular stuff or the crossbow stuff. Of course I ordered the crossbow wax, but is this new? He said everyone at ATA loved it.

Re: Good all around target
I bought this about 3 years ago and just now have to change the cover - and I keep it outside all year. http://www.morrelltargets.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=25 It is great at stopping FPs. FYI - I shot some Rage 2 blade practice heads at it, and it bent the prtactice blades (they caught on t...

Re: which bolts
I'm looking at Easton FMJ Bolts - mostly for very large game. You can buy them in small quantities - like 1 from Lancaster Archery.

Re: New to Crossbows.
Click on "Selecting The Right Crossbow" on the left of the Excalibur Page. Lots of good info there. At 6'3" he should not have any trouble cocking any of them.

Re: New to Crossbows.
Hi Gary and welcome to the forum. I own 2 Horton Legend compound crossbows . Bought the first one in 1996 and the second for my son a few years later. They have served me pretty well over the years, but I have replaced limbs on both, strings and cables. I have had pro shops put strings on one and sc...

Re: 20" or 22" Bolts
I am looking at Easton Full Metal Jacket shafts and Carbon Express Maxima Hunter KV (Kevlar) shafts for an upcoming Bison hunt.
My guess is these will have a pretty stiff spine so maybe 22" will help a bit. I plan to experiment a bit so I'll try to post my findings here.

Re: 20" or 22" Bolts
Do you cut them for speed? I was wondering if a 22" bolt would stabilize faster because the fletches are farther from the BH.

20" or 22" Bolts
Is there any advantage to shooting 22" bolts vs. the 20" bolts. 20" seems to be the popular choice.

Re: Broadhead vs Target Points
Welcome to the forum...Ask away! You will get TONS of great info from people who know what they are talkign about on here. There are 2 types of broadheads. Fixed blade and mechanicals. In the fixed blade category there are 2 sub categories - cut on contact and those with some sort of hardened tip (l...

Re: New Crossbow
I've owned and shot many deer with 2 different Horton Legends since 1995.....and switched to an Excalibur Vortex this year after yeat another $50 to a pro shop to change a stirng, and yet another set of limbs to replace the splintered ones ($150) IMHO Horton is not what is was in 1995. Quality is do...
