It depends on the make and model. Contact the company that made it and ask them if the scope can withstand multidirectional recoil. Generally speaking, if it is okay to put on an air rifle, its solid enough to put on a crossbow.

I don't use them. Just hunt sign and collect intel on when they are moving from my cameras. I believe that deer, especially mature ones, are not too keen on change.

I think the pumpkin costume idea has merit, honestly. Many people are color blind these days and the round figure would really differentiate your outline.
