Sectional Density
In a recent posting here I was inquiring about arrow length and weight. The analogy of bullet weight was used in one of the replies I got. I had overlooked this and it felt foolish as I do a lot of Center and Rimfire shooting. It also got me curious. Sectional density is an important consideration w...

Re: How do you gain FPS
Speed can be increased by making the arrow as light as is safe as well as the string. For example, the stock Excel string for the full sized Excals is more than 100 gr heavier than say a endless loop sting made from Angel Majesty; which is some 15 fps faster. But speed has it's liability. The arrow...

Re: Arrow Length
Thanks for the replies. It does make sense. I use a .338 WM for distance shooting and forgot what I had learned there. Heavier bullets do hit higher. More recently got a 6.5 x .284 and this one is far more sensitive to bullet weight but the same things happen. The range for xbow was 50 yd. but I do ...

Arrow Length
I have read a lot on here about arrow length and want to try something. After some measuring I see that a 1-1/8" fixed BH can easily sit back in the riser channel on a Vortex. I have stayed with the Firebolt as it has given me excellent accuracy and is easily available. I do fletch them with 2&...

Re: 380 scope rail
I am going to give my retailer a positive vote. Wholesale Sports in Edmonton, AB, North store. From the moment I came in they were attentive and helpful. Most of them were vertical bow hunters but all had some experience with the xbow lines they sold. They all had a preference for Excalibur. I was g...

Re: Help me decide
Like everyone else I am excited by the new Matrix models. I have decided to wait and read a lot more from members on here who have them. I have a Vortex with FFF string, shooting < > 470 gr. Firebolts fletched with 2" blazers and tipped with 175 gr, SlickTrick magnums. It is accurate and goes t...

Re: Best Broadheads for .... & Shooting in NOTL
No turkeys up here but we have sharptail and roughed grouse. Use blunts on them as ranges are usually short. For everything else I use the Slick Trick 175 gr. on Firebolts fletched with 2" Blazers using the Bolt tool. From the Vortex with a FFF string that gets me just over 300 fps. Accuracy is...

Re: Targets
Thanks for the info fellas. Now to find out where those products are available out here. BTW, I have been using soft brown tubing for arrow removal. Got a piece about 12" long and wrap it around the shaft a few times. Makes arrow pulling much easier and no bulkiness. I believe I got that tip of...

Targets
I am currently using a Delta Real Tree Shot Blocker target. Got it because of compact size. It is ok for field tips but BH are cutting it up. If you do not lube arrows removal is difficult, unlike manufacturers claim of easy removal. I am looking at the ST24 Spyder Web as the guys at the shop say it...

Re: Girl shot in CA
It is great news that this young girl is recovering speedily. No comment about media coverage as it does not matter where it comes from it is not always completely accurate, however, it did make public a scarey incident and leave a reminder. My Vortex came in a box. Before any assembly I watched the...

Re: Snuffbox's custom stock build
I have really enjoyed watching this fine piece of work progress through the months of a record snowfall winter. It brightened up my day to get on here and see the next "chapter". As the project was coming to completion it has started to thaw and a lot of the 6' + of snow is gone and the da...

Re: Slick Trick 150gr Crossbolt Broadhead?
Have not used the 150 gr. Slick Trick yet. I do use the 175 gr. with my Vortex and really like it. They shoot to same POI as supplied field tips. I have stayed with the Fire Bolt, re fletched with 2" blazers using the AZ Bolt fletcher. They are very accurate and consistent( < > 1- 3/8" at ...
