Re: Crossbow vs.Compound Bow.

I started with the old fiberglass Fred Bear recurve bow as a kid/spam ager,Worked my way up to the Bear Compound Bow.Shot compound bows up until 3 years ago(59 years old),and finally had to switch to a crossbow due to left shoulder being dislocated twice and having a torn left rotator cuff/cup,which...

Re: nap quikfletch

I used them on some Easton 2219 aluminum arrows cut and squared at 20". Could not get any of the arrows to hit bulls eye at 20 yards for some reason. Shot off a bench and still couldn't get them to hit where I was aiming.Switched to my factory Easton 20" 2219 aluminum arrows and hit the bu...

Re: Farthest shot

16-17 yards from a sitting position on a folding camp stool wearing a 3D leafy ghillie suit.Never really had an ethical shot at longer distances.I don't shoot unless I have a clean shot at 20 yards and under. My cross hair is centered at 20 yards so that is the maximum I will shoot at a deer.Target ...

Re: Hunting with ghillie suit

I shot a doe last season at about 15yards while wearing a ghillie suit.I'm pretty sure I could have shot her while wearing just my underwear. All her senses were focused on a pumpkin sprayed with vanilla extract that I placed out in the open 20yards from me.I admit though that wearing the ghillie su...

Re: Butt-Out tool and gut hook

I use a Buck Zipper Knife(gut hook).Fastest method I've seen to field dress a deer.Never tried the Butt Out Tool although I watched the video. My problem would be me either forgetting to carry it with me in the field or losing it before using it. I've cut back on carrying extra stuff with me.Just the...

Re: o\t ccw who does it an what do you carry

Glock 40cal,model 23,mainly because I got a tremendous discount when buying. The gun dealer was giving a huge discount to law enforcement and I couldn't pass up the price.

Re: string snapped on my 330 today

Just curious, when you said the arrow made it to the target 40 yards. How was the penetration into the target? Was it normal or only slight penetration? I had a semi dry fire 1 time when I shot at a deer 30 yards away. The arrow made it the full distance but was just lying on top of the weeds like some...

Re: bow arrows can be adapted crossbow?

I may be wrong on the name of the flecting.I used the ones that slide on the shaft and then dipped in hot water.I used the same size and length as the original vanes that were stripped off the arrow. If I remember they were 4" vanes.I also tried the 2" size but had the same results.Since my...

Re: bow arrows can be adapted crossbow?

Both ends were squared due to replacing capture nocks with flat nocks.Arrows looked like they were store bought after replacing fletching.I even measured exactly where to place the new fletching.Weighed each arrow before cutting and after cutting just to see what the FOC was before and after.Still d...

Re: o/t coyotes

Although everyone recommends the Fox Pro caller, you might take a look at IcoTech electronic callers.Very good product for about 1/3 the price of a Fox Pro depending on the model.Just a suggestion if you're just getting into using an electronic caller.I'm not bashing Fox Pro at all.Just trying to sav...

Re: bow arrows can be adapted crossbow?

I cut some 2219 aluminum arrows to 20" to shoot out of my Axiom. For some reason they didn't group at all.I even replaced the vanes with new Quick Fletch vanes and they still wouldn't group.I have no idea why.I can't even use them for practice target shooting since I can't get them to fly right.

Re: Bad hunting season

Quick question. Are you allowed to keep the deer you hit?If so at least you have some off set. Here in Michigan and a lot of other states, you are allowed to keep the deer as long as the proper authority is notified. In the old days, you had to wait for either DNR or law enforcement to show up and issue ...

Re: Vanilla extract as a cover scent ?

I use it every year.I buy a pumpkin and use my range finder and mark off 20 yards exactly and place the pumpkin at this distance. Then I pour some of the imitation vanilla extract($1 a bottle) on the pumpkin and sit and wait for the deer to come and check it out.I've only had does so far.The only pro...

Re: nap and bohning hot water shrink fletching

I used them to replace the vanes on several Easton 2219 aluminum arrows.I made sure to measure exactly where the old vanes were before cleaning the arrow shafts and then using the new fletchings. The new vanes went on perfectly and looked like they were original to the arrows. When I shot them, none of...

Re: You Be The Judge..

A couple years ago while hunting on private property, the next door neighbor decides to duck hunt approximately 20 yards from my ground blind. Both properties have lake front and the deer run the shore line when going between both properties.Duck season in Michigan is open at the same time bow season ...
