Re: Big John's family needs prayers and support

I pray for peace and healing for her and everyone affected by the news. Be hopeful.

Re: Vixenmaster/Smokepole Hall Seriously Injured

I just read this in the AT forum, and I am so sorry to hear this. Prayers from me in VA for Mike and his loved ones. Besides being friendly and helpful he seems like a tough guy, too (that tree is probably in bad shape) and I'm hopeful he'll be OK. Matt

Re: Fletching Alignment

As i understand it, its not that aligning the fletches w/ the blades works some aerodynamic magic--there's too much turbulence anyway along yhe arrow in flight probably to do that--but rather that if you take the time to determine the natural spine of your shafts and align your broadheads arrow to a...

Acorns

As Hester and others have noted, the acorn crop is way below normal in most places, and the same holds true in VA this year. However my impression (theory?) is that the silver lining is if in a year like this you set up in an area where there are any to be found, you' may have hit pay dirt. I'm curi...

Re: Actual Shot Distance

This year: I killed a 3 pt buck last Sat that came in and stopped 5 yards from the base of my tree. That one was my first ever harvest with a vertical compound bow. :-) so a good season so far. Last year, I killed a buck with my vortex at I recall 21 yards; and I sadly lost :( a doe that I'd hit (it...

To unstring or leave strung?

I suspect this topic has been well covered so I ask your forbearance. I left my Vortex strung since last fall. I have spent most of my off season obsessive energy fishing (good year!) and practising with a vert bow that I also hope to use to harvest a deer with here shortly. However I still love my ...

Flambeau Mad Max collapsible blind

I was wondering if anyone on the forum has used this blind (really a screen) and has an opinion about it. Since I often hunt Quantico military reservation training areas I never know exactly which will be open so I thought a lightweight quick set up blind might be useful for spring turkey hunting......

Re: reflexes

Occurs to me I should acknowledge an irony that my grousegrove moniker reflects my love for a patch of woods in PA where I have consistently run into grouse, vice my track record hunting them. I'd love to get my own good dog but it hasn't been in the cards for the grousegrove family yet.

Re: reflexes

Hmmm. Boo's reply makes sense, but all I can definitely say is that of the scores of grouse I've encountered (without a dog) all but one had better reflexes than I did! That one made me a pretty pleased hunter. Perhaps needless to say a crossbow bolt was not part of the equation there. They have usu...

Re: Magnus Bullhead

Not sure if this thread is still live but for Secret, that Muzzy grasshopper turkey thing looks like it might be a pretty effective gizmo. Does it really stop the arrow from a pass-through or just increase shock and slow it down a bit? Also based on your experience or anyone else's how much do those...

Re: Sandy Hook

Yes it's hard for anyone to wrap one's head around. It put me and I'm sure many others in an unusual frame of mind for what is usually a cheerful Advent service today. There's no dispelling it and no neat policy remedy or words we can probably provide that can explain or fix it. The people walked in...
