Question for flemish string makers.
How do you finish your braids with the two even ends that "poof up" after shooting like the Excal and boo strings? When I watch the "how to" videos, every strand ends up being a different length and braids in the the string without leaving the two ends. Here are a couple of pics ...

Re: String making help.
Yeah, I'm just a "do it your self" guy, and making my own strings would be a fun side project for me. Anybody have a good set of plans for a string stretcher for the purpose of serving? Thanks for all the feedback! Not a written plan, but see the following: I used some heavy duty shelving...

Re: About the new Guardian anti-dry-fire system
I put the Guardian system on my Vortex. Easy to install and it does work. I tested on my original string and it does as advertises. String only travels a little over an inch. When you insert an arrow/bolt, it depresses the spring loaded latch that catches the string in the event of a dry-fire, thus....

Re: String making help.
All of the youtube videos that I've found show people making strings for recurve bows and not xbows. I'm sure the process is the same except for both loops on the xbow being the same size. Is that correct? Also, how many strands are recommended for a xbow string?

String making help.
I'm tinkering with the idea of making my own flemish strings. Just as a fun and rewarding side project.
I just wanted to someone to point me in the right direction as far as books/videos and equipment, before I waste time and money on things I really don't need.
Thanks.

Re: What arrow for Turkey hunting?
The rope stirrup sounds scary to me. If it were to break or come loose while cocking, your face and bow would get to know each other quite well. I'm a turkey hunter, and would love to be able to use bullheads on my vortex, but they definitely do not clear factory stirrup. I went with the 125 grain r...

Which serving string?
For reserving my string, I've read recommendations on various forums for using angel majesty .036, but NOBODY has that size in stock. In fact the largest size I've found available in the angel majesty brand is .026. Is that ok? Or... Is there a better alternative? Any/all suggestions would be very m...

Re: Problem with Guardian and Lumenokks
Good to know! I put the Guardian on my Vortex and I was planning on buying some illuminated firebolts. I guess I'll hold off and hope Excalibur corrects this issue.

Re: First Excalibur Kill - Double Bearded Gobbler!
Way 2 go. That is my goal this year. A turkey with the x-bow. Can I ask where did you hit him? I am leary to shoot one & lose it!! Heart/Lung shot. It's critical to study up on a turkeys vitals. It's misleading where they are. Hope these pics help. I'll show you my shot and some pics of vitals....

String waxing question.
When waxing my flemish string, should I wax the ends that "fuzz up" after shooting or leave them be? I've attached a picture to better explain what area of the string I'm referring to.

Re: First Excalibur Kill - Double Bearded Gobbler!
Not the new Rage "crossbow x", but the older Rage crossbow head, 125 grains.
I can't find the new "x" head anywhere.

First Excalibur Kill - Double Bearded Gobbler!
Got my first kill with my Vortex, opening morning of turkey season here in Georgia. A decent gobbler and my first with 2 beards. Main beard was 9.5" and second beard was 5.75" Shot him at 20 yards and he ran only 15-20 yards before dropping. http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz319/chefrif...
