I shoot GT laser II kinetics aluminum insert and they are 353gr. Can't seem to find any more than the 4 I have though

I also have one of dannys pullers and it works great. Ive also used those circular rubber things you use to open canning goods with, they work great in a pinch. In any event give dan a call he'll hook you up.

I just drop one of those fresh earth scent wafers in my soft case once in a while. I use them more to put my mind at ease than anything else.

I use 175gr slick tricks never had an issue in which uve described. Like you said to many variables to form an opinion on a "one off" like your experience. Anyways congrats on the doe and keep slinging the slick tricks I don't think they'll let you down.
