And I think a level is always a good idea,if you have a tendency to cant , no matter even 5 degree is not a good thing at any distance, and I'm not an engineer. You can buy the 5/16" Spectra at West Marine or any Marine store, by the foot. Thinking about it, the Vecrtan would be better for this, as Spectra is slippery while Vectran isn't. Almost the same in strength and weight though.

This stuff ain't cheap, but a couple feet won't break the bank.
