I've updated the image with the info you've provided.

Re: Washer weights

Norm, I've added a tab to the end of the String Jump spreadsheet to make approximating weights of threaded rods and cylinders easier in the future:

Code: Select all

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14080410/StringJumpCalc.xlsx
It can be used for Aluminum, Brass and Stainless Steel (304)

Re: Hog hunting fanatics

The farmers in that isolated area believe they have enough hunters to control the number of hogs. I'm torn between hoping they're wrong and hoping they're right.

Re: Hog hunting fanatics

tammie, I am green with envy  We have some hogs here in Northern Virginia, but they're isolated in one area (for now) where I haven't been able to get permission to hunt. Sheila, my 380, and I would like a crack at them.

Shoot em up.

Re: Washer weights

Norm, I just checked my math. Must have fat-fingered something cause I got a different number. Here are my corrected weight estimates for each of the three binding post lengths: .25" = 5.2gr .5" = 10.5gr .75" = 15.7gr Maybe you used the diameter of the threaded portion of the binding ...

Re: Washer weights

Looks like these could work too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminum-Binding-Post-Screw-8-32-X-1-4-Extension-/370309716725?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item56382ddaf5 Only question is, how much do they weigh. If I calculate the volume and multiply by the density of aluminum, I come up with about 5.2g...

Re: Washer weights

Norm, do the 8x32 threaded aluminum rods have a hex pocket like regular set screws so they can be screwed in with an allen wrench?

Re: Washer weights

I have a bunch of Slick Trick washers I'll send ya, for free, but yer spinning your wheels. 'Met' a fellow on another forum that had 6" variance at 30 yds and was convinced it was 125 gr mixed w/ 100 gr he normally shot. I made up one of each, the shafts were touching at 30 That's certainly me...

Re: Washer weights

I just ordered some 8/32 set screws that are only 1/8" long. I'm hoping they'll weigh around 3 grains each. I figure I'll screw them deep into the front insert with a little blue loctite. That should get me closer to matched weights if I file some of them down and/or use more than one for the l...

Norm, true but I have some heavy shafts in the set that are 7 grains heavier than the lightest.

Re: Washer weights

Norm, I'm hoping to find some 0.5 grain or 1 grain washers, just to tweak the weight a bit. I'd gang them together to get the right weight. They'd either have to be very thin or made from aluminum or nylon. I've requested a quote from a manufacturer for a size in stainless steel that looks like it w...

Washer weights

Has anyone ever tried adjusting/matching the weights of their arrows using thin flat washers behind their broadheads/field points? For my BEEs, the washers would have to have an outside diameter of about 0.348" with a 0.204" in hole. I've seen some very thin washers. Thin washers would be ...

Re: FOC question

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that FOC has nothing at all to do with arrow flex/spine or trajectory. Rather I believe it's all about center of mass, and the relationship between center of mass and the distance from it to the vanes. The longer the distance, the better the ability of ...

Re: Broadhead mounting

On my vertical bow's stock arrows, I put a small o-ring behind the broadhead and a bit of blue loctite (the new stick type) on the threads. I use three-blade broadheads with the vertical bow so, at most, I have to turn them 1/6th turn to get one of the blades to line up with the cock vane. The locti...

Re: FOC question

The calculator I put into the StringJump spreadsheet (FOC tab) uses the entire length from the tip of the head (not shaft) to the back of the nock: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14080410/StringJumpCalc.xlsx It makes no sense to me to exclude the field tip or broadhead. FOC will change dependin...
