Re: DIY Crossbow Holder?

I bought all of my stands when I was hunting with the vertical bow. So, none of them have shooting rails. If they did, I could probably just lay the xbow on top. Is that what most do? I suppose I could make my own strap-on branch for hanging the bow overhead so I didn't have to be so particular abou...

Re: Need some input.

This ought to generate lots of replies. The question is one of need versus want. The package you got has everything you need except broadheads. If you plan to hunt big game, you'll "need" broadheads. Now for a list of other possibilities that are wants: The most important items at the top ...

Re: DIY Crossbow Holder?

Bill, I like to be able to stand up and turn around on the ladder stand's small platform. If the bow where always tilted back, it would get in the way of that. Cutting a V slot rather than a straight slot might allow fort the best of both. Resting against the front of the V would move the bow away f...

DIY Crossbow Holder?

Has anyone made their own crossbow holder? When it gets really cold, I like to keep both hands in my insulated vest pockets or a muff. Tucking the stock of my Matrix 380 under my upper arm and over my forearm isn't comfortable for very long and, consequently, I find myself fidgeting. Also, having hu...

Re: String creep

I did a little looking around to find that the maximum recommended load on the 3/8" clothesline hook is 240lbs. That's probably a few pounds under where the hooks start to bend and not that much different than the bow weight.

Re: String creep

OK, so I put a torque wrench on mine. It appears that the hooks start bending at about 40 in lbs. (No oil on threads) Anyone else have a similar number?

Re: String creep

Amazing. Do you oil the threads a bit? I wonder what the breaking point is for a stock Matrix 405 string or what the max tension should be when stretching/serving. Has anyone used a torque wrench to try quantifying a good pre-bend torque? I finished building my jig a little while ago. It's made of 2...

Re: String creep

nchunterkw: My clothesline hooks are 3/8" in diameter. I'm not sure they'll bend before the string breaks. What diameter are your hooks?

Re: String creep

Boo, I'm in the process of building a slightly modified version of your serving jig. How do you know how much torque to put on the clothesline hook nuts when either reserving or just stretching a new string?

Kb, good to know. Thanks for the follow-up. Are the heads big enough? They must be. Hopefully, I'll never need them, but if I do, I know where to look. :)

Re: Is Matrix noticeably Narrower

That's too bad. I was hoping I could buy an old riser with limbs for use with my M380 and switch back and forth at will using the wider, older style bow for 3D and small game and the regular riser and limbs for deer and bigger game. It would have been nice to be able to have the stock, scope and tri...

I bought one of these:

Code: Select all

but I haven't had a chance/need to try it yet. Looks like it should do the trick. Got mine from eBay.

Re: Is Matrix noticeably Narrower

Has anyone tried bolting an older-style riser with limbs (like from a Phoenix) to a Matrix? If so, what hoops were jumped through, if any, and how was the result?

BB, did it look like the threads had blue loctite on them?
