I've known Danny for around 30 years and I can say you made the right choice.

Your best bet is to replace the trigger with an Excalibur trigger. Parts for Astro Daco crossbows are few and far between. I was one of only 3 or 4 folks doing service repair on Astro Daco Crossbow in the U.S. I'd advise strongly against taking it to a gunsmith unless he or she is familiar with that...

2 or 3 times per week for 45 minutes to an hour should keep you on the top of your game, but that is for you to decide. Just remember the more you practice the better you'll get. Also remember to shoot a 5 spot target so you don't tear up your arrows.

Dose anyone remember "The Crossbow Place" in Jeromesville, Ohio?

Also did anyone shoot in the Hunter Stock or Sportsman's Class in the 1986 3rd World Crossbow Tournament held in Oxford Ohio? If so I would like to here from you.
