Re: New-ish Hunter - looking for a mentor

Sproul is right I'm looking to get some hands on help, although I do appreciate all the advice here which I will definitely try. I don't even care if it's taking me hunting per se, if you get a deer and live near buy, and I'm available I'd even love to come get a run down/help you break down the dee...

Re: New-ish Hunter - looking for a mentor

When there is fresh snow on the ground look for tracks. Where there are lots of tracks, put out a cam the next year to find out what time of day they travel in that area. Look for creeks in the bush. Deer like these areas because they are hidden Look for funnels in the bush. Deer can funnel into an...

Re: New-ish Hunter - looking for a mentor

like he said ^^^^ #1 take a gun and shoot every coyote you see -- try varmint hunting one season go get call -- call'm in and get rid of them!!!. #2 find the travel routes accross the property - know which way the wind blows and place a tree stand accordingly at each end of property, hopefully on t...

Re: New-ish Hunter - looking for a mentor

You're approaching this with the right attitude. If a fellow hunter gets permission to hunt with you, I think the benefits are good both ways. The first thing would be to get trail cameras out to get an idea of how many deer and turkey live on the land, and what to expect from the herd in terms of ...

New-ish Hunter - looking for a mentor

So, I come with a slice of my humble pie. I am an unsuccsessful new hunter. After spending the last two seasons in the bush for hours on end (family property of 19 acres, 8 forested the rest agriculture and residential) I am sad to say I've not yet bagged a deer or turk. Better yet, I've only ever e...

School me on Bolts

Hey guys - noobie inquiry here I've got a new little micro kicking around my house, and naturally I'm already looking for aftermarket parts for it 8) I'm new to crossbows, what's the deal with the arrows? I've tried the ignorant method of google searching "micro crossbow arrows" and apart ...

Re: It's happened..one week old micro...

Status Update: I stopped in to excal warehouse today and got fixed up and on my way within 30 mins. Great customer service experience, and fantastic facility. Very happy with the company, and hope this set of limbs last a long time :D

Re: It's happened..one week old micro...

Wow, that grouping is impressive at 50 yards. Seeing that I should drag my block back out and keep practising haha. As far as me sticking around, don't need to worry about that I'm not going anywhere, definitely excited to be a part of the excalibur family. So, would you suggest then that I keep sho...

Re: It's happened..one week old micro...

Heres an attempt at some pics - again I know it looks small, but the second I heard a pop and looked down to spot the crack in the core part of the limb I unloaded the bow to avoid anything dangerous happening. Hard to see from the pics, but the crack runs into the meat of the bow about 1-1.5 mm, an...

Re: It's happened..one week old micro...

Thanks Anthony No I didn't ever dry fire it, I took myself through a crash course of do's and dont's of crossbow ownership - dry firing being the biggest don't. I also made sure that the knock of the arrow was right up against the firing pin before shooting, I cocked using the cocking aid in an even...

Re: It's happened..one week old micro...

Sure thing, I'll preface this with - this is my first crossbow, and I have been excited to dive into things, but that being said I am very very new to it all. The pack I bought came with a 4 quill set up, with field tips (not sure if they all do?) and I was recommended to work with those until I was...

It's happened..one week old micro...

Sad to say, I've had my micro for one week..have fired less than 25 shots through it, and has been cocked for under 3 hours. The brace height has been in spec since unboxing, and yet today as I sat in my stand I heard a crack…looked down to see the right limb was cracking right by the brace (thickes...
