The deer and deer hunting area is a broad field. I have amassed a collection of roughly 116 volumes dealing exclusively with deer and it's hunting.... a good number of them are rare or scarce, out-of-print, privately printed, limited editions or greatly sought after novels. I recommend you concentra...

butchering and packaging your own
Guys, Butchering and packaging your own deer is quite a rewarding experience. 2 guys can completely butcher and package a deer (1 deer) in 4 to 4½ hrs. All you should have left is the meat meant for hamburg, sausages, jerky or pepperettes....that's all we pay the butcher for (because of the equipmen...

Hunting Day / Nov 3rd / St Hubert's Day
Hey!!!!!
Funny no one mentioned it was St. Hubert of Aquitaine's Day....recognized as Hunter's Day or the celebrated day of hunting.
Maybe Woody's got the complete breakdown on this day like the one posted last year.
Happy St Hubert's Day

High winds and deer
One thing is certain about deer. They will do what they want, when they want....Just like you. If your determined on going out during any weather, you'll go & so too will deer when their mind is made up. Only, don't expect the deer to be calm and relaxed. It has been my experience that deer out ...

Melanistic deer
From the color of the deer you posted, I beleive what you harvested is a melanistic deer. Extremely rare deer......even rarer than an albino or piebald deer, all the more difficult is the fact you got a buck. Truly amazing. WELL DONE MAN. Melanin = a dark brown or black animal or plant pigment Melan...

to skin or not to skin
1- Gut deer as soon as possible 2- Make sure inside is clean or free of any debris 3- Hang in a cool place out of the sun (The chess cavity should be propped open to allow cooling) My deer hunting practices include hanging deer by the neck and keeping the hide on till I am ready to butcher. (Butcher...

effects of the moon
Full moon aside, studies have been done regarding the rising and setting of the moon and it's influence on deer. It is believed that when the moon starts to rise this is also the signal for deer to resume their search for food, to get up and go forth. The opposite occurs as the moon is ready to set....
