Thank you all for the input. This was an easier "no brain" decision back when I had a 3.5" 870 to use  But I sold that gun and have a 20 gauge now.

The shotgun might serve me a little better until I learn how to call 'em in close on a consistent basis.

Turkey Season - 20 gauge shotgun vs. Exomag

Hello. I've been scarce around here a lot lately - hope everyone is doing well. Turkey season is rapidly approaching and I'm faced with a debate. Basically, I can't decide what to take in the field to bag the big birds. I got a 20 gauge shotgun that should do the trick - but I've heard a 12 is bette...

You bank fish for those? Or go out on a boat?

This thread reminds me - there's nothing quite like the sound of a wound up chainsaw to get yer heart pumping - right up there with ratcheting the action on a pump shotgun or the twang-thunk of a crozboo and arrow. I got a Stihl 029 that ain't the best saw ever built, but it starts regardless of the...

I emailed it to my itinerary manager (aka Mrs. Zeke  ) - it's too early in the morning to tell her things.

Also sent it to work so I can spread the news there too.

I'm no biologist, but I believe deer are color blind. They don't react to things they see the way a turkey does... hence the reason you can stand perfectly still in blaze orange and have a deer look right at you and not run to the hills - he may sense something is wrong, but isn't quite sure what......

Even thought of getting a little Red Rider or other such low power BB Gun and setting up a little range in the basement...

... we already have several BB guns - so that was mostly an excuse to get a Red Rider (for indoor use)...

Good ideas all. Wabi - I was thinking more along the lines of "after dark" - Them Ranger Rick types frown highly on hunting with a flashlight :D Never was much of a fly fisherman - seems too disciplined a sport for me. BUT - that reminded me, I got me some chunks of wood around here somewh...

I also had a T/C Contender pistol I used a 14" 45-70 barrel on. At the time it wasn't legal in Ohio for deer, so I eventually traded it off, but it was fun to plink with using the medium loads. An empty pop bottle at 100 yards didn't have a chance, and you didn't have to look at the primer to ...

It's a mix here - we've got a fireplace which is inefficient as hell, but at least the furnace stays off for the few hours each evening an weekend... while we burn free wood from the ice storm last Christmas. Our house has fireplaces upstairs and down - I really wish we had inserts in both - with bl...

Maybe I should look at carbons then? I can say these arrows won't be used for hunting - she's just trying to figure out whether she has the patience to develop good form and can develop the strength to draw and hold the bow - as far as accuracy, I figure if we can keep her inside a two-foot-square a...
