Illinois Crossbow Regulations
If I am reading correctly the Illinois DNR has dropped the maximum draw weight from the current regulations. Hunting With Crossbows Archery hunters have the option of using a crossbow during certain dates (see below). Specific crossbow hunting requirements remain in effect for a portion of the seaso...

Re: What arrow weight do you prefer?
Wow, how did i miss this thread? glad i found it cuz i've been thinking about changing my arrows. however, it seems whenever i deviate from the KISS principle i run into problems. i am satisfied with quills & boltcutters, plus they are paid for. i would like to add lumenocs as it took me an hou...

Re: If you were going to change from stock to aftermarket ..
I would use the stock crossbow and 16.5 Quill arrows with boltcutter broad heads as you start out. It will be great for deer hunting and the arrow has been optimized by Excalibur. Be aware of FOC as you experiment with different arrow and broad head combinations. After you have gained some experience...

Re: Quill versus Zombie Slayer Metrics
You can figure out what the FOC is yourself. Use an object, like a round pen, to find your balance point. Mark it and measure from your nock to the balance point. Here's your equation: Center point - Balance point ÷ O.A.L. (total arrow length with point) × 100 = % FOC Paul Being new at this I am in...

Quill versus Zombie Slayer Metrics
Since I am relative new to using crossbows I have been on a steep learning curve. When I bought an Excalibur Equinox a couple of years ago I used the arrows that came with the crossbow and whatever broad head was convenient. Then I purchased a Excalibur Micro 355 and am using the Quill arrow and a 1...

I had no problem out to 40 yqrds with poi. The air brakes slowed the arrow speed 4 fps on a micro 355.

Re: shooting chronographs
I have a Caldwell that works nicely. You can use as a stand alone or collect the data on your smart phone or computer. I use my laptop and collect all the data and the program summarizes the average, minimum, maximum, and standard deviation. You can store the data on a file on your computer.. I have...

Re: What arrow weight do you prefer?
I just purchased micro 355 as my 1st crossbow, what would you suggest for arrow and broadhead combo? also what's with adding brass inserts for additional weight? back in my bow hunting days we tried to cut weight in every direction and shoot 125 or less broadheads, current bolt logic seems to be go...

Re: What arrow weight do you prefer?
I may be wrong but I have weighed the Quill bolt and it weighs 250 gr. The 9.9 gpi is for a bare shaft. 9.9X16.5 =163.35 gr. Now add in the vanes, flat nock, front insert = 86.65 gr. 163.35 gr plus 86.65 gr = 250 gr. now add 150 gr broadhead and the total weight is 400 gr. I am using the 16.5 inch Q...
