Re: How cold is cold for you?
When I used to hunt with my Carhart Artic coat and bibs 20-30 degrees was my limit. I bought some Sitka down stuff and now I stay warm in all late season weather Missouri encounters. I like hunting late season public-land because there is not many people out there. If you can find some down products...

Re: Headlamp
I bought one of those "as seen on TV" headlamps from Walmart this year. It is bright and only cost $20.00. Though not as bright as the light my cousin bought a Cabelas, for $200, but did the trick.

Re: What's a shooter to you?
A shooter to me has changed in recent years. It used to be a 10 point; but now a good 8 point is either getting an arrow in it or bullet. Hunting 100% public land I would prefer Missouri make the 4 point rule state wide. But where I hunt anything is game. I tend to let the small ones walk. I try to ...

Afflictor Broadhead Update
I was able to harvest two deer (both doe's) with my M405 Sunday evening. First deer kill with my excal crossbow. Used the Afflictor (Swine) 150grain and 20 inch Executioner arrows. The first doe was shot in the left shoulder broadside, it passed through the shoulder then exited the opposite rib cage...

Re: New-ish Hunter - looking for a mentor
Welcome to the brotherhood. I feel your pain; was in the same boat when I started. I used to rent Roger Raglin videos and learn from my mistakes. If someone will teach you the basics you will do well.

Re: Just A Heads Up
I have had an owl do the same to me. I waved my arms and moved; didn't want to lose an eye.

Energy out of a bow
Is there a way to calculate how heavy an arrow needs to be to get the most energy out of your bow? I have a M405 and wonder how heavy I should go. Thanks in advance.

Re: Ready
Dave, I can't wait either to get out in the Mark Twain National Forest in Southeast Mo and kill some deer too. We ran out of deer meat several weeks ago, so I am ready to get one in the freezer soon. I did not get one with my 405 last year so hoping to have some success this year. Last year was my f...

Re: Buddy looking for 405
Has he checked Cabelas? I got my M405 as a refurbished unit; it came with cracked limb tip and only two arrows. Excalibur took care of the issue (new limbs and string), everything else was like new. I saved a lot of money compared to a new one. I have not looked at their crossbow selection in a whil...

Re: FOC question
I got an FOC of 14.86% with a 125grain tip and 16.21% with a 150 grain tip with an arrow that weighs 387 grains (without the tip). I measured the same as you did; don't remember the website the FOC calculator was on though.

Afflictor Broadheads
Has anyone used Afflictor Broadheads? If so have you have any pre-deployment issues with them? Also how did they perform in the field? Thanks in-advance for your help.

Dirt Nap Broadheads
Anyone shooting the Dirt Nap broadhead? I am shooting low and to the left compared to my field points with their 150grain double bevel head. Wondering if anyone else is having any tuning issues with them? Thanks Don

Re: Full Metal Jackets
I bought a M405 last year, new to crossbows I thought I needed a heavy arrow like I used with my compound. I found some FMJ on sale on the Internet and bought them They are 22 inches long, Very heavy, I use a 150 grain tip, slow it down to 352f/s. At 50 yards they produce tight groups though but sti...
