To Our American Friends
Even though I live in Ontario,I have hunted Vermont,PA,and NY state. I can tell you that PA has an early muzzleloader,a rifle, and a late Flintlock season, where crossbows can be used. I think that Vermont also has a crossbow season, tied in with their archery season. Not having hunted NY for a couple ...

PLACES TO HUNT
Anyone out there, within an hour of Brampton, looking for a x-bow hunting partner? Would love to fill a tag before the season closes at the end of the month! Failing that, does anyone want to suggest an area that can be used to hunt without the perpetual problem of access? Anytime next week would suit ...

neck shoot
I shot a doe in the neck years ago with a compound bow,and it dropped right in it's tracks! I also shot one through the front lower part of the neck with a rifle and never found the deer! In this case, there was blood sprayed everywhere. Someone picked uo the track the next day,and traced it back to ...

First Crossbow Kills
Try looking on ebay. There is a seller,on ebay,"scoobygoodboy",who has had some very good prices, and he has been the subject of comments in this forum. They are listed under "who is this guy"? Most of the comments about him were related to how come he could sell them below wholes...

Scope Caps for Maxzone.
Try Butler Creek-they make all shapes and sizes of caps for scopes-most hunting shops will carry them.
I just use one on the upper end,to prevent any rain or snow when carrying the bow,or leave it pointed up when not in use.
Quicker to pop only the one cap when you bring the bow up too !

String jumps bolt
Gary is absolutely right about the flat nocks!
When I first got my bow,it came with 4 bolts with moon shaped nocks.
I had a couple of jumps, and erratic flight.
I filed down the ends to be flat, and the problems all went away.

Deer habits and snow.
I don't think it matters where you are,as I have hunted extensively in Eastern and Central Ontario,Vermont, north western PA,and the southern tier in NY state, and the deer habits are almost identical when it comes to behaviour in snowy conditions. That comes from one year's experience,50 times!!LOL!!...

Deer habits and snow.
My experience has been that they do very little moving during any snowstorm. It is even worse if there is wind with the snow. When it stops, and the sun comes out,it seems as if they all fell out of the sky,as you will find tracks everywhere! Definitely your prime time to be out there is anytime righ...

FIVE BLADE BROADHEADS
Thanks for the input Gary! I may get them if the price stays low on ebay, just to see how they fire. I would expect that a five blade broadhead would leave a better blood trail than a two or three blade. By the way, there are a whole bunch of Excalibur crossbows on ebay tonight,if anyone is following ...

FIVE BLADE BROADHEAD
Has anyone used one of these? I happened to come across one on ebay, made by Innerloc, and I have their three blade fixed blade broadheads, which I like. Any comments from the group? I would want to know what would be required to "tune" them into a three vane bolt. Any and all feedback is wel...

ADVICE,BIG TIME
Just to let you know that I would normally hang my deer,in my garage,as long as it is cool enough, for up to two weeks before I do the butchering. I think all serious hunters should learn to do that,as that way,you know for sure what you get,and reduce the risk of being short changed by an unscrupulo...

Canning
Just to add a little preservative and change the colour and the taste of venison done in either a canner,or a pressure cooker as the guys have mentioned, add a bit of alum instead of salt,or do both. The meat will form a gelatin inside the jar, and,as one guy said, poured over some cooked spuds and car...

Cornwall Area
Carl, what part of Vermont are you from? When I lived in Cornwall, many moons ago,we built a cabin just east of Johnson Vermont that my brother still uses. He owns a large farm north east of the city, and last year 16 guys, including me,shot 12 deer, with more than half of them over 195 dressed(that was ...

Man,with a rack like that,he is probably going to be as tough as nails!!
LOL!(lots of laughs!)
The rack itself must weigh at least 25 lbs!
All in all,I still would have liked to have been the shooter!
It must be a record for a non typical set of antlers!
