Re: Favorite time of day to hunt?
I have always preferred morning hunts but especially since I passed the Medicare age. Dragging deer out of the woods in the dark is not the problem unless it's like 2 nights ago. Put a Gold Tip thru a doe about 45 minutes before dark and she ran straight down hill about 40 yards but slid another 20 ...

Dead deer on Interstate
Drove from Tn. to Vt. for Thanksgiving. Coming back on 11/27, we saw 25-30 dead deer on I-81 in Pennsylvania. Only saw a few in Virginia & Tn. That's a lot of deer and insurance claims.

Re: GAME CAMERA USERS!! !!
Now, my best are 5 Browning Recon Force. Great battery life, quick trigger, good range on detection and flash. Had 3 stolen from behind my house last Christmas, now all 5 are in lock boxes. The original Bushnell Trophy Cam was my favorite until it got hit by a pileated woodpecker. By far the worst w...

Re: Apology to Excalibur!!!!
Got my Vortex when they first came out. Took 2 shots to get it sighted in. At the end of each season the string comes off. Right before the next season comes in, I re-string, shoot 3 shots and they are all dead center. Killed 2-3 deer every season and it always hits where it should. After 7+ seasons...

Re: Deer Shoulders ?
I do not shoot at the shoulder with gun or bow. Gun boogers up too much meat. I've only hit one in the shoulder with the Vortex and it cut through both shoulder blades. Lots of bloodshot meat.

I put my boots on the heat outlet in the mud room the night before. Starting out with warm boots help. Also, Kennetrek boots are some of the warmest

Re: Rage fail!!!
That's a bummer. Hard enough to get a shot, then stuff happens. I've never used mechanicals, just don't trust 'em. Grizz Tricks for me. Got a little 6 pt. on opening day, he went 40 yds. Shot a little 8 pt. this morning, he made it 50 yds. before he piled up. Good blood trails and as old as I am, I ...

I use "Stick Fast" for inserts and vanes. Knife makers use it for handles on blades. It's the best I've used.

Re: arctic shield
There are different levels of insulation in Artic Shield parkas and pants as indicated by price. I caught some of the "H8" on sale last year and it's very warm but is sized to be worn over other clothes. You still have to wear "something" under a Heater Body Suit. Nothing will ke...

Re: acorns falling = no deer at the feeder
All the hunters native to this part of Tennessee say they have never seen an acorn crop like this year. The ground is absolutely covered, in yards and the woods. Deer have no need to get up and out. Their bedding down and just staying in the woods. They could literally stay in a 100 square foot area...

You'll like the PD35, 2014 version has almost a 200 yard throw. 4 other levels if you don't need the turbo mode.

Re: Meat Grinder Recommendations
I have the LEM #8 and it's big a' plenty for a few deer a year. Get the foot control accessory it's worth it's weight in gold, well almost.
